Thats absurd to have that much drafting success while picking at the bottom of the 1st round. When people say the draft is all luck you can look at how many stars and role players Pop has developed late in the draft and realize its not all luck at all.

In 2011 they drafted Cory Joseph one spot before Jimmy Butler was taken. They also took Splitter before Marc Gasol. They took Kyle Anderson with Nikola Jokic on the board. Suprised their fans don't bring this stuff up daily like ours. I guess it's easier to ignore when your team isn't horrible

...and yes, I think Stan should be fired. I don't expect every draft pick to end up a hit. Missing on guys here and there happens, but you have to get more out of your draft picks. I think Stan has drafted poorly but he has been even worse at developing the guys he has drafted.

Ok they had some misses over the years while picking at the end of the first round. While still being very successful like many other teams have drafting. Not sure what point your trying to make? That they've drafted awesome while still missing some players?

Not sure why some fans insist that its all "luck" why the pistons draft and development is so bad over such a period. Its not just a "man were so unlucky" thing.

Yes id for sure take it. Some solid players that we could really use in projected in that range Dzanan Musa,T.Brown,G.Allen,Zhaire Smith.

Thing is Pop knows the value of draft picks. Look at some of the later 1st and 2nd rounders hes hit on over the years.Highly doubt hes going to give up that pick for Stanley and if he does then chances are Stanley becomes really good.

I think that's a pretty key part there too. Those same players in another system (like ours :( ) could end up being busts, likewise some random scrub maybe turns into a solid player if he's drafted by the Spurs instead. A successful draft is definitely a combination of scouting, luck, and of course what happens after the player is drafted.

We hit on Dinwiddie and Middleton over that period. Pistons front office was just to stupid to realize what they had. I remember one of the mods posted not long ago that alot of the same scouting department has been here for many many years. That would explain how awful the draft has been to us combined with bad coaching.

Reminds me of the lions for all those years. Rarely hit on draft picks but were picking at the top of draft every year. Meanwhile a team like the pats are trading all over the place picking up gems while picking 29 picks later every round.
