Some people have been counting out Ball and Fultz, I believe both have a chance to be really good. Sixers are finally building something really good.
I feel like this notion that Fultz played this “great game” yesterday is being vastly overstated. Let’s keep things in perspective and treat him like a number one overall pick and not a kid who looked like a mental midget for most of the season. We need to continue the to hold him to “1st overall pick” standards, especially since he came at such a high cost for the sixers to acquire.
Having said that, I now ask what was so great about his game last night? His first shot was an airball, he had 2 or 3 shots that got swatted down his throat, he shot 5-13 from the field for a whopping 37%, he still hasnt completely/consistently lost that weird hitch in his shot, he had a couple of turnovers, and he didn’t really have any impact on the defensive end of the floor. How is that great showing? Sure, I guess if you just glanced at the box score to see he had 10pts and 8ast in 15 minutes, then you’d assume he had a good game, but IMO that wasn’t the case last night.
Don’t get me wrong, he showed some decent point guard skills with his play making ability, but outside of that, I think all the questions people had about his game are still fair to ask. To me, his shooting ability and his mental make up between the ears are going to be the biggest determining factors to see if he can ever live up to his predraft hype.
After seeing how this season has played out for fultz both on and off the court, I’m now completely convinced that Danny never even considered drafting this kid. I bet he wasn’t even in Ainges top 5 prospects list.
He had a great game. That’s what it was. It’s noy vastly overstated. 10 points and 8 assists in 14 minutes. That’s great. I’m sure Sixer fans are happy. Doesn’t mean he is going to be a great player or not. It’s one game. But for one game, he was great. For a guy being out that long and going through whatever he was going through, it was encouraging for for.
To answer your question. 8 assists in 14 minutes was great. Having a near double double in 14 minutes was great. There is nothing to put into prospective IMO. One game. 14 minutes. First game back in months. Very good signs.
I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. Like I said, from a pure basic box score glance, it looked like a good game. However, I actually watched it and saw him shoot 5-13 with little to no effort on defense and a few turnovers to go with it. I saw him still look very uncomfortable shooting the ball, even from as close to 10 feet to the basket. His release is still poor and it led to an airball and 3 blocked shots. For a guy who by all accounts was healthy this whole time and just missing games due to a mental issue, or the “yips” if you will, he didn’t really impress in his first game back. He just didn’t look like a number one overall pick. It’s only one game , so I’m not saying this is who he is, but just because he finally made it back on the court I’m not going to reach and say he played “great” either.
I did give him credit for the play making and assists though, but even that can be a deceiving stats. If some of those guys miss some of those shots, he drops from 8 assists to 4 or 5. It’s not like all his passses led to easy baskets at the rim, some were still tough shots that his teammates just happened to knock down.
Regardless, I just think we have a different definition of what a “great game” is. Now if you wanna say it’s a great sign to see him back on the court doing some things well, then I’m absolutely with you. I’m just not gonna say he had a great game because his box score looked decent outside of his shooting percentages. Especially when shooting was one of the biggest questions on his game.
