Not doing this a year ago cost him millions

Bet he ends up taking a one year deal from the lakers, even if it’s the cap room exception.

That's the most I'll be willing to pay him, and truthfully, after this, it looks like that's going to be his value, unless a desperate team gives a huge one year deal, but there aren't too many desperate teams around this year.

Overall, meh. I wouldn't complain if we've already seen his last game of the year. He did his job....helped us a win a couple of games that's going to make our pick outside of the top ten, and provided some entertainment to end the season....If we can keep him on a min/room level deal I'm for it, but other than that, I have him far down in the list of our priorities, even if we strike out in FA and retain Randle and decide to use the rest of the cap on big one year deals, I have KCP and Lopez comfortably over him in terms of priorities, and that's not even included any potential one year big contract rental that may be available in free agency.

I really can't think of someone who got screwed more financially in recent history though.

He signed a 4 year/27m contract in 2015 right before the cap spiked. Would have been an undisputed max player in any of the past two summers, eligible for 30m per year (his one year salary would have been bigger than his entire previous contract...which was the biggest contract he had ever received in his career), and it looks like with the market coming back down to earth and his age/injury concerns, he's going to be a midlevel type of player at best in the near future, and he could easily become a minimum guy like Drose if a couple of MLE type experiments fail.

Isiah Thomas will be a cautionary tale that agents will tell their clients regarding how quickly you can lose all your earning potential in the NBA.

He will go to any team where he can get starter minutes for his next contract. That opportunity isn't here. Injuries to Ingram and Hart and trading Clarkson opened up some PT that wouldn't have existed, and even if we don't get Paul George, we have better options in FA. Give Zach LaVine (35% pull up threes, isn't working with Kris Dunn) or Seth Curry (45% pull-up threes) a look.

Figured as much. Me personally i wouldnt mind having him back on a 1 year deal if we strike out in FA this off season. Hes a dog and with a healthy rest, with this team currently we could get 40+ wins in a season and be very competitive in the playoffs.

good news- we got a pick with him and he might settle on being Lou Williams or we do the KCP 1-year thing if we refocus on another guy in 2019.

PG + Resign Randle and IT for either cheap or short and then he can help Deng go away late next year before 2019 brings us Klay or whoever.

Organization being classy. I dig. He won't be here next season unless for dirt cheap and off the bench. I think he's the wrong fit to say the least. I think he'll replace Kemba who will bolt. Best of luck to him recovering.

I don't see him coming back with the lakers

And I wouldn't want him too honestly. He is such a liability on defense he goes against everything the lakers are looking to acomplish on that end. (Ability to switch everything and have everyone able to guard multiple positions)

I just don't see where he fits... maybe a return to Boston?
The nets?

Just a forgettable tenure
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

Must be hard not knowing where your gonna get your next meal. Perhaps we could all start a gofundme page?

I'm being a smart-*** obviously....but while I do think the guy got hosed by Boston, someone is gonna take him this offseason, and even if it's a paltry $2mil....I think the guy will be able to consider himself one of the luckiest, and wealthiest men on earth.

Yeah....he may not be able to guarantee his offspring great wealth late into the 29th century like Lebron and Durant, but maybe a little little hands-on labor will do the kids some good. Chin up there Isiah. You could go work in one of those awesome Nike factories if it comes to it. I'm sure you know someone, and could get a good reference.

I hope he returns to his former self.
In a way it’s good thing for us and him. We can sign him, if he chooses, to a 1 year deal.
