What would you do if we won the 1st overall pick?

I have put some thought into this, at first I thought trade down and get ride of all our bad assets and still pick someone good, but after looking at everyone extensively I would take Marvin Bagley and run. I think he is the perfect big next to Dre long term and has the skills to to be the first big off the bench and can work next to Dre and Blake in the short term. From there I would trade whatever we can to upgrade Ish.

Jackson, upgrade
Bullock, Kennard
Ennis, Johnson
Blake, Bagley
Dre, Moreland, Ellenson

Our butts and SVG would be saved. But what are your thoughts on what you would do?

Doncic is my number 1 for our team. No way we should take Ayton when were already locked into two bigs on huge contracts. Aytons the best #1 since Davis decent change somebody would offer us up quite a nice deal for him.

Moving back into that Sexton/Young/either Bridges territory and picking up another future 1st + a young player would be sick. Maybe we could move back a spot or two and another team goes Bagley/JJJr and we can still get Doncic. Thats risky though because if Doncic goes 2 and were sitting at 4 then all the next best prospects are bigs so we'd have to reach a bit. Though we could roll the dice on MPJR and try to run him as a 3 but hes mores of a stretch 4.

Draft Ayton and trade him + Leuer + Galloway for Michael Porter Jr and Kent Bazemore a future lotto protected pick and #18 or if it's too much #30 and #33.

Use our MLE to sign the best possible winger.

At the deadline pack ATL pick + expirings (Ish/SJ/Bullock) and get the best player possible, add Luke to the package if the player is worth it. Ish SJ Bullock ATL pick for a disgruntled expiring Kemba Walker maybe? (probably an overpay but oh well)

Drummond
Griffin / Tolliver
Porter / Bazemore
(Barton or Tyreke or Hezonja) / Luke
Kemba / Reggie

Next season, extend Kemba and trade Reggie's expiring for Biyombo's expiring + a minor asset, because Reggie will be disgruntled coming off the bench especially in his contract year.

If we're trading down it has to be with Phoenix. Get their pick which is still likely top 4, plus #15 and #16.

Outside of taking Bagley, I would make this trade, but only if porter checks out and can make a full recovery. I see him at 4. The use those other picks to move back into top 10 and get Sexton. Or if Sexton falls do a trade with Charlotte for kemba and reggie and future picks.

This is what I would do.

This draft is so poor on PGs so the other 2 picks are going to be BPA. I would be hoping Bridges drops and torn between Luka and JJ.

First thing you do is make it abundantly clear we're going to draft Ayton unless an offer comes in. So many teams are going to want that guy, the package to get him should be sick.

Then you take the offer that makes the most sense. Dumping Leuer, Galloway, and/or Reggie (if we have a PG deal to make), maybe even Blake, although I'm looking for a positive return there. Multiple firsts, or perhaps just a small trade down if the org loves Doncic or Porter Jr. or someone. If you can get a few firsts and dump a couple bad contracts, the roster looks a whole lot better.

I remember people saying in the KAT draft that we should trade the #1 pick if we win, because we already have Drummond. Maybe it was OP then as well? :lol:

If we won the draft (the only thing significant we hope to win in the next 12 months), you take DeAndre Ayton and thank the basketball gods for finally giving us some good luck. Doncic isn't going to be special in the NBA, Bagley has great physical tools, but gives zero effort on defense and has question marks on whether he'll figure it out or not.

You draft Ayton. If he's the real deal. You trade Drummond for an upgrade on the perimeter, anywhere on the perimeter. I look forward to the days when we won't have to watch Reggie Jackson dribbling the air out of the ball and people are excited about it because at least it isn't Ish Smith hopelessly dribbling in circles hoping the defense forgets he can't shoot.

I would certainly work the phones - never know what kind of stupid offer might happen. We have a lot of work to do to fix this roster, and if we could trade down and still get a young star.

This may not be a popular thought, but we might be stuck with Blake. So hopefully a full training camp with him, Dre and a healthy RJ can create something good. If (I know it's a big if), but if we can trade down and get a real good established wing player that can shoot by trading down, then we could actually have a playoff team capable of home court advantage.

So trade down if we can get a great wing, but don't trade if it is just to dump contracts.

To whom and for what? This offseason's draft class and free agent class are replete with capable big men. And nobody is likely to give up equal value in wing scoring in exchange for a center anyway.

I don't know how there's an option other than this. No way I'm passing on Ayton because Andre is on the roster. You take Ayton 1 overall, thank Drummond for his services, but you won't be needing them anymore and trade him away for a bunch of goodies in a blockbuster draft night deal.

If we trade back for an inferior wing player just so we can "justify the Blake Griffin trade" and compete for first round exits I'll be devastated.
