By most metrics: Millsap, Lyles, Chandler at PF have all been better than Faried last year. Faried without Jokic was terrible offensively and defensively. Jokic + Faried was terrible defensively and good offensively, which says more about Jokic than it does Faried.

I'd like to see those stats. Last time I saw any of those stats, Jokic plus Faried were pretty good on offense and not too bad on defense - but it's been a while.

I don’t have the full breakdowns in front of me, so just a quick overall hit:
Faried 2016-2017 RPM -1.6
Faried 2017-2018 RPM -1.4
Lyles 2017-2018 RPM -0.05
Millsap 2017-2018 RPM +1.57
Faried+Jokic were dynamite offensively but a liability on defense.

Everyone loves to say Faried & Jokic are both defensive liabilities. There are stats that say otherwise. Points in the paint was circulating last year and Jokic especially ranked very high there but nobody considers him a good defensive player because he doesn't block shots.

I'll just toss out a few stats as well and I'll look at last year since Faried isn't playing much this year.

Last year Jokic and Faried averaged nearly one block per game. Plumlee averages one block per game, barely better.

Last year, Jokic & Faried ranked #1 & #2 in defensive win shares for Nuggets.

Last year Jokic & Faried ranked #1 & #2 in PER for Nuggets.

I think we might be looking up different stats. I have
Faried + Jokic on the floor 16-17: 0.7bpg
Jokic + Millsap on the floor 17-18: 1.9 bpg
Plumlee + Jokic on the floor 17-18: 1.0 bpg
Lyles + Jokic on the floor 17-18: 1.1 bpg

NBA.com has last year Jokic #4 and Faried #13 on the team in defensive win shares.

From wikipedia: "PER largely measures offensive performance. Hollinger freely admits that two of the defensive statistics it incorporates—blocks and steals (which was not tracked as an official stat until 1973)—can produce a distorted picture of a player's value and that PER is not a reliable measure of a player's defensive acumen. For example, Bruce Bowen, widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the NBA (at least through the 2006–07 season), has routinely posted single-digit PERs."

Yeah, I'll agree on PER but IMO it's one of the best overall measures available.

As for NBA.com; I don't go there much. I prefer basketball-reference.com.

Regardless of where we get stats from, we can always find stats that support what we believe. I don't worry too much about the defense when looking at individual players because the rest of the team on the floor can have such a great impact on anyone's defensive stats. How different sites determine win-shares is also subjective from what I can see.

What I do know is that looking at last year; looking at five-man lineups considering points differential; Faried was in #3 & #5 best lineups.

My frustration with Faried's lack of playing time is less about the impact on the team's play today and more about "Why in the world didn't they trade him if they weren't going to play him?" and "He's given a lot and this is how we treat him?" and "His trade value is probably much lower now than it was over the last few years."

I still don't understand why he's not getting any time on the court, I know he probably rib Malone with his I am the starter quote early this year, but when team comes out without any energy, he's the perfect player to be inserted in the line up. He could have helped this team a lot this season.

:banghead: Make up any excuse you want, it's what Malone does and with Faried, he really hasn't said a thing. I'm amazed the Faried hasn't said something, but then again, he's a team player, so it's the way he is.

The best excuse is "we have too many PFs" - which is true. So Malone has to short someone and he has chosen Faried. It surprises me that he plays Lyles more because in every other slot, Malone always plays the veteran more than the young player (until Jokic, G.Harris, Murray forced him into playing them and even then he still messes with their rotations sometimes).

If he plays Lyles he gets to say "See I'm developing our young guys"

Far from the truth but it's what he gets to say.

Faried hasn't said anything publicly. We have no idea what has transpired below the surface.

Well, give props to Faried, he has played the good soldier and not become a problem-child like so many do.
