If anyone is jumping to 1 its more likely the Bills out of pure desperation.
Although Jets still have next years 1st as a bargaining chip.
Jets are Not in a bad position overall, so not sure if the benefit of that jump to 1 warrants another deal.
CLE may not pass on Barkley at 1, knowing they can get a QB at 4.
If CLE does pick Darnold 1, then Giants wont pass on Barkley.
Either way, ideally there will be only 1 QB off the board by the 3rd pick.
Jets will have a choice of either Rosen or Allen. I like them both.
Missing the point here. The Jets gave up 3 2nds on a hunch that the QB they want is going to be there, or they have no preference between QBs and are just taking whoevers left. Either way its a bad look.
Rosen has been most likely to go to NYG (if there at 2) and is seemingly the preferred pick of experts, more so than anyone else. So that leaves Darnold, Allen, and Mayfield. And any one of those could go to the Browns. So again, the Jets moved up and enhanced their chances of getting a quarterback, but dont seem to have any idea which one it is. And that's not a good way to proceed in the NFL, where you move up to just take BPA at a position.
Now, if they moved up to take Chubb, knowing the 1st 2 picks would be QBs, at least they had a target and followed through.
I too thought it was a weird move. With the trade up, you know they're going QB.
I thought the Eagles move was weird a few years ago - I guess somehow they knew the Rams would take Goff over Wentz - or else they were "fine with either", which is odd to me.
The only thing that would make sense to me in this case is if they prefer a QB who is not preferred by the Browns (or Giants) - if they could somehow know that. My thought is Baker Mayfield - they're confident that he won't go 1st or 2nd, but beyond that they don't want to risk it, and the Colts told them they have other offers for their pick and didn't want to wait until draft day.
With the Eagles, I think by the time they made the trade, most were assuming that Goff to the Rams was happening. Obviously not a done deal, but I'd have to believe that they knew what was going on there. There were 2 QBs, and they were going 1/2, definitely. Here, there's so much uncertainty in the top 3, that it's a really baffling move.
If the Colts did tell them they had other offers, and they panicked, thats a bad move. Lets say the Colts did have other offers.. and someone took it. Ok, well that means they are taking a QB. So the Browns would then be on alert, knowing that possibly 2 QBs could be gone by pick 4 if they dont take one at 1. So now they take one at 1, Giants are iffy to take one, but might. Team at 3 definitely is taking one. Now the Browns are up at 4.. not needing a QB. Trade with them on draft day! I mean, at least then you have a specific target.
I dunno. If I'm the Jets owner, the GM just got himself fired right after the draft ends.
