Backup SG

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Thu Mar 29, 2018 1:37 pm

Anyone interested in a backup SG that averages 40% FG - 33% 3pt?

You've got your pick on the Nuggets of Beasley or D.Harris - they are identical per 36 minutes. Now consider that Beasley actually plays defense too and he defers to Jokic on offense.

I still believe in Beasley, I do think another SL would benefit him greatly. They made him available in trade talks this season, glad he didn't get traded, think they need to give him Barton's minutes and see what he can do.

I like Beasley as well. If Barton leaves I think he'll finally get a chance....but I think Denver is going to pay Barton.

I'm not sold on Beasley. He has athletic ability but not a great BBIQ. He gets lost sometimes on both offense and defense. IMO it's why he doesn't get many minutes.

"Not a great BBIQ. He gets lost sometimes on both offense and defense." - It works for Barton & D.Harris, it can work for Beasley.

You can tell his BBIQ in the 9.5 mins a game he's played per game this year ???? And most of those were garbage mins I'm guessing

I'm the "young player fantatic" and yuppers, Beasley had the vast majority of his minutes at garbage time. Prior to D.Harris' arrival, he occasionally got some real minutes (especially early in the year), but Malone preferred using Barton at both SG & PG.

As for getting lost in our defense? Not possible because there is very little consistency from player-to-player on defense. As for getting lost in our offense? It is possible when Malone calls plays, but usually they break down and everyone free-lances. When Jokic's getting the ball, it's cut-and-run for everyone else. Don't see how you can get lost in either offense. As you say, Beasley is athletic. That's the best kind of player for the Nuggets.

By the way, last year in the D-League, they even played Beasley at PG some and he was praised for his basketball IQ. IMO he doesn't get minutes because his coach doesn't like young players and Beasley has not gotten a chance to prove that he just might be as good as G.Harris or Murray. He may not be, but how would anyone know?

On the eye test Beasley looks to me like one of our best perimeter defenders, behind Harris but right about the same level as Craig. I personally think it is past time to move on from Barton and give Beasley his minutes. I also think it would help the bench as a whole improve from bottom 3 in the league as guys are more involved overall and can get touches and not have to cover upfor our worst defender.

Maybe a better way to put it is that he still looks very raw and has a lot to learn about basketball.
