Devin Booker

The more i watch the suns, the more I feel bad for Devin Booker. I hope we are not the team that’s known for ruining his career. But I really do have my faith in McD. He should have a strong offseason.

https://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/nba/suns/2018/03/12/phoenix-suns-devin-booker-cleveland-cavaliers/416809002/

One day, during Booker’s junior year, he and and his father drove by a motorcycle accident on their way home. They didn’t think twice about it until Melvin got a call saying Lil Mike had been involved in the accident. He called Lil Mike’s family members and they told him Lil Mike had died.

He was 41 years old. Booker was with his father when they found out.

“That was Devin’s first time dealing with the death of someone so close to him,” Melvin said. “It affected him pretty good. Mike was just like family to us. The day of the funeral Devin cried really, really hard. It was the first time I had seen him like that.”

Awwww that’s super sweet. I understand. Mr. Booker is speaking my language.

Angels have attributes such as strength, kindness, intelligence, compassion, love, and holiness. Appreciating the angels demonstrates you admire these personality traits. Angels often represent all that is good and pure.

Someone who loves angels is far more likely to admire and aspire to these qualities of goodness and purity.

They may represent your desire for self-realization and enlightenment. As they are spiritual beings, a love of angels may reveal a spiritual side of you which has faith in a relationship with God. Angels are known to protect and guide people. They are of service in almost any capacity that is required.

People who are drawn to angels may take comfort in feeling that there may be spiritual beings out there looking out for them.

We may be mere human mortal beings, but we can always aspire to be like the angels.

CSB, I know.

Not sure anyone read this article yet...

DudeWhoWroteArticle wrote:Because Booker wasn’t drafted in the top 10 in 2015, he would have a $9.9MM cap hold next summer, roughly $17MM less than his salary under an extension. Phoenix has the potential to be a player in the 2019 free agent market, with roughly $35MM to $40MM available once contracts expire for Tyson Chandler and Chris Dudley. However, if Booker insists on an extension this year, that number would be cut roughly in half.

Marks recommends negotiating with Booker as though he were a free agent the Suns are trying to recruit. He says GM Ryan McDonough and his team should present a salary-cap breakdown and a list of potential 2019 free agent signees to Booker’s representatives, explaining why it’s in his long-term interests to have the best possible teammates around him.

I tried explaining that to the suns beat writer on twitter earlier this year but he couldn't comprehend why it could make sense to wait.

If I'm Booker, I don't want to wait.

One really bad injury during that 'waiting' season and he AT LEAST runs the RISK of losing a ton of money. Likely? No. Possible? Yea.

Booker has been plenty patient with Phoenix, not his fault the rebuild is moving along at a slow pace. I'd be thrilled if he was OK waiting, but I totally expect him to want that extension this off-season and I would completely understand it.

Devin Booker’s message to Suns management when they seek his input on the team's coaching search will be simple.
Get better players.
Booker told azcentral sports Friday that he’s less concerned with whom the Suns hire than he is the future makeup of the roster.

“I just don’t think a lot of responsibility is with the coaches. It’s a players’ league.”

The one quality Booker does want in the next Suns coach is an ability to hold players accountable, which, he said, is imperative for a young team. But he followed that statement by saying, “nothing major,” which seems to suggest he wouldn’t be comfortable with a coach who ruled with an iron first.

“It’s on the players, how great they want to be and how serious they take their work,” he said.

Booker said in October that he would be willing to sign the five-year, $156 million contract extension the Suns can offer him this summer. Asked if anything – or everything – that has happened this season has changed his mind, he chuckled and said: “I mean, that’s a whole other discussion. A lot goes into that. When that time comes I’ll have to make a decision.”

But then he added, “I’ve always said this is the place I want to be so if everything works out, yeah.”

It will be really intresting to see his contract extension talks. If I were the suns I'd give him the max contract, but ask him to think about only signing next offseason to see if we can add a(nother) superstar with our cap space next year. Plus really assure him (wink-wink) that he will get that contract pretty much no matter what - it's not like we have a lot of other chances. Even if (god forbid) he gets a serious injury next year we should sign him to something around his max, no?

That kind of promise in the end comes down to Book taking a leap of faith in the Suns organization. And, let's admit, we haven't exactly built the best reputation in terms of treating our players right, independently if you think the GM is to blame on this or not.

We probably can't afford to be too tricky but we could offer him 90% Max this off-season or 100% next off-season with the promise to spend the extra cap on better players.

Booker would have to get a body part crushed in order for him to not get a max contract. Even if he got a torn achilles or torn meniscus we'd still offer him the max. He doesn't rely on athleticism, just solid fundamentals and great shooting ability. If we didn't offer a max next off-season some other team would, and then we would just match.

We discussed Booker delaying his extension until the year after before but I'm starting to get the feeling that McD really might or that on the table as an option.
