I know you saw him on campus to but did you know him?

The day he spoke to me I damn near died... I was always too in awe to speak.

The guy was just down to earth good people.

Didn't know him - remember walking past him a couple of times when he was a nervous looking freshman. Remember watching his early practices with the team at Cole Field House to see how he and another 6'8 freshman named Ed Farmer were fitting in with the team - led by the star of the team then - Adrian Branch. Ben Coleman was the team's only big, and little Chuckie Driesell rode the bench. Jeff Adkins was the steady guard, and Herman Veal the enforcer. My best friend at MD went to HS with him at Northwestern - said he was just an average guy there. I graduated in his junior year at MD. It was amazing to see him progress and become the big man on campus, get compared to Michael Jordan, and be the 2nd pick in the draft and labelled the heir apparent to Larry Bird. Still haven't gotten over the shock when I heard the news at work and it sunk in.

Watched the McDonald's All-American games (boys & girls)and my assessement:

Turge and Brenda have beasts coming in.

There's no way Jalen Smith & Shakira Austin aren't immediate starters.

Yeah, I do remember speaking to Ed Farmer. Dark skin brother legit 6'9"... Was super talented but he didn't have much of a career at Maryland.

I used to see Chuckie all the time too and I definitely talked to him. Sounds like you left one year before Bias really got good. I remember him as a sophomore. He had already played against Houston with Hakeem and all those guys...

Veal and Ben Coleman left before Bias...IIRC. I remember Veal had that scandal over the rape accusation. The Duke fans threw panties at him.

Ben played a pretty good while in the NBA. I used to see him work out against Jeff Ruland and the Bullets big men. Coleman had a really sweet hook shot.

What's really a trip is to see Adrian Branch is famous. Boomer Esiason is famous. I remember sitting next to Boomer at a basketball game. I thought he was a goofy dude. Who could have known that he would have a great career in the NFL and as a broadcaster?

Maryland athletics was really on top of things in the early 80s.

Ruz, I was at that game where Chuck Driesell got denied at the last shot. Jordan came down the court and threw down a dunk. I was at the student section under that basket just a few feet away. That was such an amazing dunk and put a harsh on the crowd.

I just remember thinking I know Lefty doesn't want Chucky to get the last shot. He believed that Chucky was a great free-throw shooter. If I recall correctly Chucky did get fouled but they just didn't call it.

It's cool when you followed a player when he was just a guy, and they end up famous. I remember the first time I read anything about Boomer - there was an ariticle in the Diamondback about this hick freshman QB who loved football and his truck. He was so happy that he was able to put gigantic tires on his truck - it looked like a monster truck. Now he's a sophisticated ex-athlete who runs a foundation. I thought he was great when he did MNF radio - not sure if he does games locally, but he's got a talent for being a color analyst - just like AB does in college basketball.

She's a 6-5 PF/C who runs like a deer.

My only year at Maryland, before transferring, was in the fall of 1986. Right after Bias died, I cut class to go Lefty's resignation. Lenny was a like a God in P.G. County. A lot of my friends were all set to be Celtics' fans, as most were Sixers or Lakers bandwagoners. Didn't have any friends who were Bullets fans. They said they were boring, which they were in the mid-80s.

So on June 17, we were at the Cap Centre on Draft Night and were shocked when the C's got Bias. I don't think I would have been a Boston fan but a fan of Len at least. Missed those days of going to the Cap Centre on Draft Night to watch the telecast on their telescreen. Went there probably 5-6 times.

There was nobody like Len Bias. There were guys that could jump like him and guys that could shoot like him but nobody had that package in a 6-8, 220 pound frame.

Watching that McD's game last night. It was just blah, filled of about 50 dunks and some 3s. Close game but didn't hold my interest like those games at the past once again in the Cap Centre. Still have some programs from the 80s of those HS All-Star games.

Len got only 7.1 PPG. Veal was a good rebounder on that team. Yup, Ed Farmer looked like a good young athletic bookend forward, but he never panned out.

WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING... I recall Lenny got BETTER at EVERYTHING from frosh, to soph, to (his last) junior season. He was averaging 23/7 on super percentages that increased each season; despite double and triple teams.

Greatest ACC player I've seen, even if Daugherty was drafted before him and I did see ACC MJ.

Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz, ESPN's NBA Draft scouts, came away enamored with the 6-foot-10 future Terp:

Playing for droves of NBA scouts for the first time in his career, Jalen Smith helped himself as much as any prospect here. Better known as "Stix" to his teammates, the lanky, 6-foot-9 Maryland signee is an energetic, modern big man who can space the floor while protecting the rim and rebounding on the other end. He's quick off the floor as a shot-blocker and an active rebounder, but it's his shooting stroke that makes him so intriguing to NBA scouts. He's made tremendous progress with his mechanics since we first evaluated him with USA Basketball in Colorado Springs in June 2016, as he shoots an easy ball with great balance and rotation.

Bruno Fernando had retweeted a Jalen Smith tweet. I found that very encouraging.

If Bruno stays the Terps are going to have a very formidable team next year!
