Rod Thorn & Jason Kidd to be inducted into Naismith Hall of Fame

Post#1 » by Paradise » Fri Mar 30, 2018 5:05 am

I know we haven’t had much positivity lately but this is one of the best moments in the history of the franchise. Our former superstar is a legit HOF and the architect of it all is too.

This still remains my favorite Nets regular season game ever.

Wonder if Kidd will enter as a Net or as a Mav?

I'll bet anyone on here that Kidd doesn't enter the hall as a Net.

i bet he wont and i also bet if we were petty we could get them to rescind him getting into the hall of fame in todays climate of no tolerance for domestic violence

That wouldn't happen.

Outside of baseball writers acting uppity about steroid usage in an era where pretty much everyone was cheating, off court issues rarely keep guys out of the hall of fame.

For other franchises, a guy who lead a team to back to back finals being honored in the HoF would be a huge moment. For the Nets, it won't be. He'll enter the hall as a Mav since he was drafted by them and won a ring with them. The Nets will be treated as merely a pit stop when in fact it was here where he really defined himself as an all time great.

Rooting for this team is really depressing at times. Nothing good ever happens. This team is cursed. From Drazen's passing, to DC not giving a damn, from getting to the finals and not winning both times, to not having a real fan base, to the Billy King era, so on and so forth.

That's what would make a chip even sweeter in the end. It's easy to just bandwagon and be a fan of the best teams at the moment but putting up with pain for years and winning it all at the end is one of the best feelings there is.

I think this current core will surprise.

In regards to Jkidd... he was fun to watch as was that team..I'd be shocked if he doesn't pick the Mavs over us though. Just the type of person he is.

Doubt he'll go in as a Mav with all the negativity surrounding Cuban and the organization - could bring Kidd's own domestic/personal issues to the forefront

He's going in as a Net baby!

Glad he told Deron to glue his ass to the bench - deron was a disgrace

Yeah, are people forgetting that how bad things ended between Dallas and Kidd twice?

Yes, he was drafted by them but the Kidd, Mashburn, Jim Jackson trio wasn't a bed of roses.

Cuban thought Kidd was going to re-sign with the Mavs when he chose to go to the Knicks. At the time, Cuban was super pissed.

Since then, things have gotten better but even Cuban recognizes that Kidd wasn't a superstar when he was with the Mavs:

"I just have to decide how to do it, because there's a lot of guys from those years' teams," Cuban said. "While J. Kidd is a Hall of Famer, he wasn't really a Hall of Famer who spent most of his career here. He had some great years here, but so did a lot of guys. It's not really a reflection on J. Kidd. It's more a reflection of how I want to deal with it. Do I want to do a Ring of Honor? Put a team in and honor all the guys on the team? I don't know. I haven't decided yet."

I think the Nets have as good of a shot as Dallas or Phoenix, if they aren't already prohibitive favorites.

Kidd's top achievements aside from the ring in Dallas, which was a late career ring, were in New Jersey.

how badly does he despise the franchise is the question. the phoenix years were good but nothing compared to the Nets years.

The only thing better than a championship, for a fan, is a championship by an underdog team that you watched from the very beginning through the dark years. As a Lakers and Dodgers fan, I can't say I truly emphasize with the underdog status as much as other franchises (LOL), but hey that 1988 Dodgers team was the worst team on paper to win the World Series in my opinion -- that season is the pinnacle of a magical season for a fan. Forget beating the As, I can't even believe we beat the Mets in the NLCS.

In a couple years, maybe even next year, the Nets will be a playoff team right there with the Celtics, Bucks, and Sixers.

I came to the Nets as a Lin fan (the ultimate underdog), but I gotta tell you, I love this team, from the management to the coach to the players to the broadcasting team to the occasional shots of Taylor Rooks. :-o

I'm not saying we should because domestic violence is far and away more serious than him being a jackass

This franchise just always seems to be poorly run like the king's or clippers

I've gotten excited about this team 3 times in my life and they failed

The Derrick Coleman Kenny Anderson Chuck Daly team

The John calipari era

And the dwill era

The one time this team had any sustained success it came out of no where and even with that literally everything Broke right

Kittles healthy for the first time ever

Trading Eddie Griffith for Jefferson and Collins (I've never been angrier about a trade and I still remember bill Simmons clowning the move)
Todd mccolough
Keyon being healthy (and that's the nets luck winning the lotto in the one of the worst drafts in history)
Van Horn becoming some semblance of the player we thought he'd be

Yep. It was surreal at that time. I don't think I've had as much fun watching us play like i did during those 3 years. Top ten defense, fast breaks, unselfish basketball. Sigh.
