but we won with him the other night too though. so i don't know how much this really proves.

i dunno. i want the team to do well and I don't mind the team being a little more harder on Russell to get the best out of him but i see no rhyme or reason behind this. the Nets seemingly just traded for both him and Okafor for no reason.

the kid was on the end of the bench distanced from the coach. regardless of him being a good soldier about it, that's not good. the fact that he lost the coach's faith in 6 minutes coming off of a game where he played excellent basketball is just WEIRD as hell.

this stuff makes me lose faith in the entire process to be honest. what's the plan here?

In the Okafur trade they got a pick and a chance to evaluate he and Sauce. Sean Marks is a good gm.
I stand by the belief that the DLO trade was for a 'splash and that's not Marks' style he wants to "hit singles and not skip steps."
The DLo trade was to appease the impatient owner who doesn't understand the NBA and told Marks he would stay out of the way.

I'm curious what you guys think hes added to his game. From what I've watched, he looks pretty similar to what hes always been, he's just been given a bigger role

I point it out in the game threads so everyone can see it. The game started!

Hard to say what he's added having not seen him a ton in Portland, but from what was expected he's been a lot better defensively. Even when he's not shooting well he's had a positive impact closing games out with his defense (like last night) and hasn't been lazy at all. He contests shots well, adds a few unexpected blocks each week - he's weirdly good at blocking 3's - grabs a few steals and rebounds, basically he's generally pretty disruptive with his length and he's pretty good positionally.

Offensively he's been about as expected and done a decent job trying to expand his game beyond the 3 ball, but that's still the dominant part of his game. Next year my hope would be he can bring his 3 pt % up around 40%, possibly even slightly reduced volume from this season. I don't think it's unrealistic for him to end up closer to 15 ppg with some overall improvement to the team around him and getting more comfortable and efficient with this roster.

This.

Almost every trade Marks has made has gotten the team a draft pick and every player he's brought in has fit into the system. Here's a trade where he gave up a pick and a decent player for a bad contract and a player LA gave up on. Not someone they wanted beforehand btw just someone who became available. It was a bad trade it's ok to admit it.

It's way too early to say the trade failed.

I don't think Marks would trade for a guy due for a big 4th year extension without serious thought. Remember, he said he's been following DLo for years.

I can see scenarios where DLo could be traded but I don't think it's their preference...at least not yet.

You have zero evidence that the owner pushed for that trade.

We do however, have Sean Marks on record stating that he was interested in dealing for Russell for awhile.

And it wasn't a bad trade. Lopez is on an expiring contract and he has declined badly this year. The pick we gave up was expandable. Taking a gamble on a 22 year old player with Russell's talent level is a calculated and sensible risk.

Do you? Show me I don't recall.

At the beginning of the season both GM and coach said out of respect for the owner they had to improve as if they were being pressured. Sean Marks is on record saying he wants to hit singles and not skip steps. It's all online bruh I'm not making it up.

But in an informal chat with NetsDaily on Wednesday, Marks was still preaching what he talked about when he walked into HSS on a gloomy February morning in 2016: Patience, patience, patience, not just for fans, but for the team’s soon-to-be co-owners, Mikhail Prokhorov and Joe Tsai. Marks still thinks the long-term rebuild, the development of a culture, is still the way to go. And he won’t predict when he thinks the Nets will reach that goal.

“We’re going to have to be patient, Mikhail’s going to have to be patient, Joe’s going to have to be patient,” said Marks. “But by the end of the day, we all realize, ‘let’s build the foundation, let’s build something that fits.’ What are all these pieces, how do they fit into this puzzle, this year, next year, the year after, how ever long it’s going to take, they have some solid footing to stand on.

Let's be real Billy King was the gm but everyone knew Prok and Rasumov were making the moves behind the scenes. This move was a gamble that's not Marks' style. That's not San Anonio's style where he was groomed.

I disagree. Brook had a career year in Brooklyn when they traded him that's what's important to the Nets not how another team used him... Brooklyn has no business trading away picks especially after not having their own for years.

Taking a gamble on a 22 year old player with Russell's talent level is a calculated and sensible risk.

Exactly it was a gamble we'll see how that works out lol. You forget the $32 million they'll be paying Mozgov to sit on the bench. AND they gave away a pick.

Where do you see a positive in that trade?
