Maybe just before we start Malone's fourth year we should have a poll to try and figure out how many games will be remaining before we are out of the playoffs?
Edited my error on which year I was talking about.

I fully expect to see Josh, Tim and AK sitting on a podium making excuses for this busted season and maintaining their faith in Malone shortly after the Nuggets last game.

He needs to go, his refusals to learn on his own mistakes and dealing with the personalities on the team qualifies him as an ex coach.

It's kinda sad to see a FO based on scouting ability not have any idea what a competent coach looks like.

Firing a guy is not how a nice franchise works, that is pretty mean, so of course we will not fire him until the players openly revolt against him as a team.

There is no way Malone stays. He will be fired.

Re: Does Malone get fired?
While Kroenke family becomes globally famous for owner-coach "extreme loyalty" thanks to English soccer club Arsenal Arsen Wenger case, and despite they miss so many opportunities during this season to fire Malone, I'm pretty sure he is going to be fired this summer even if we miraculously somehow reach the playoff! Too many mistakes.
And despite Arsen Wenger is far from a perfect solution for a team to win English Premier League title, he is still with reason a big name and top half of current PL coaches no doubt. On the other hand, Malone is arguably bottom-5 coach in Western Conference, just compare him with other WC playoff contenders coaches (+Dallas +Lakers coaches). He is done.

Fantastic article on the Nuggets,m good read IMO
https://www.denverstiffs.com/2018/3/30/17176888/if-the-denver-nuggets-are-going-to-make-changes-for-next-season-they-really-only-have-one-way-to-go
Brings up a great proposition is it Malone or is it the roster Malone has been given to work with, are the two headed in the same direction ??

I won't disagree that our roster is all wrong, especially with Malone as the coach. But I'll still submit that Malone's also part of the problem - as we've discussed before.

Malone gets a lot of heat from fans but the Front office deserves just as much blame. They constructed a roster that doesn't fit and overpaid guys who don't have/shouldn't have large roles on this team. I stand by my take on firing Malone. Defensively we are still terrible and the offense is good but inconsistent. 3 years of Malone and the defense just hasn't improved, terrible teams like Brooklyn, Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte all have better defensive rating than us. That's just unacceptable, I don't think this team should be this bad defensively.

Agreed - it doesn't point out where he got his defensive reputation - it was as an assistant coach at Golden State. So we can assume that his head coach was truly the defensive genius and not Malone, based on what has happened under Malone at Sacramento and Denver while Golden State's defense has remained a top-notch defensive team.

The thing that everybody misses about the Warriors is that they added Bogut, who was a tough, borderline dirty defensive leader who taught those guys (especially Draymond) how to play defense. That is one thing I would have given Malone a pass for, but we actually had the guy that is closest to a prime Bogut defensively in the league right now on the team, and he couldn't get along with Nurkic.

The FO will point back to these previous wins as a reason to keep Malone

Re: Does Malone get fired?
I have mixed feelings about Malone. It's hard not to see the mistakes. I remember one that was clearly Malone's involving Memphis. Other times it is clearly youthful mistakes. I see growth in this club. Yet, how much does youth hold them back or is it bad coaching?
This Nuggets team has 3 future all-stars under 24 with Jokic clearly playing at that level now. Does Malone get any credit for that or is it all TC? Except for extended time away, Millsap looks like he can mesh with this core. Is that Malone or TC credit?
Is Malone responsible for an overpaid veteran who can't play team defense or shoot and therefore can't play in Faried or is it TC? Undoubtedly, TC has made some big mistakes and has made some great moves at the same time. Denver has some medium/large expiring contracts in the near future and should be able to keep this young core together to TC's credit. I don't know how much say Malone has with player acquisition and I am guessing none so to me, it is not fair to hold Malone responsible for team construction.
When fully or even partially healthy this is a great offense team. I think Malone does deserve some credit regarding his half court motion scheme but I also think this system looks similar to the Warriors. It relies on good outside shooting and Denver has some. Jokic adds a unique factor that few teams have. TC will always get a plug over the Jokic draft pick. Therefore, TC deserves some credit.
The fact is, the Nuggets can't seem to buy a break on the injury front and it is likely that we won't get to see what this team is fully capable of this season. Can't fault TC or Malone for injuries. But there remains some hope still.
The other fact is that their record is improving. Slowly though. I have to give Malone a pass although it pains me to do so.

Canned in Denver.
