What an incredibly bad trade Melo deal turned out to be. The only positive is Kanter is very effective in tanking. If we played OQuinn, Hernangomez and even Noah, we most likely would have a better record now.

i'm agnostic but i'd like to think if there was a god that he would be a little less cynical. because personally i would have given up on this whole, pie in the sky, free will for humans thing a long time ago. i'd put capn'o in charge of the earth and then tell him to ban everyone.

I'm not sure whether to amused or to be deeply concerned that you have so completely internalized the RealGM experience that it has become your template for the world at large.
In the event you do wake up one day an omnipotent deity I want to say for the record you're the nicest curmudgeon I have ever met and always speak well of you behind your back (well, you'd know that already if you're omniscient, so never mind).
If Cap does become your stand-in ruler then I want to be given the speechwriter gig.

You'd have the good sense to make it easy for me. That I can trust. Just one button. Not this whole diplomacy thing and admins whose interests run directly against nuking the place.

If we draft even a marginal role player with the Bulls’ pick, I’d still call that trade a win.

Did we keep the pick? I thought it was part of the Mudiay deal.

We traded a different pick (originally the Clippers).

The first Melo trade was much worse

strangely enough, 20 million dollar centers who can't defend or shoot from beyond 10 feet don't have a robust market
with a plethora of teams tanking, i assumed he'd catch something from someone, especially with the possibility of him opting out of his final year increasing due to the empty stats he's putting up

The Front Office couldn’t have severely limited their options on the Melo trade any more than they did. From Phil de-valuing Melo to all the shenanigans Steve Mills did before hiring Scott Perry as GM.
Kanter-lantern is a good teammate and activist using his money and influence to help his dad’s political party. My problem with Kanter is the fact, the Knicks never made some conditions with OKC in case he opts in. Melo is off the books. Kanter gets another $18M cheering on his teammates 20 pts behind with his stats looking deceptively healthy.

Re: Enes Kanter's (Lack Of) Impact Article
The interesting thing about this season has been the brain trust. The NY Knicks front office is behind the times that they don't realize, fitting "systems" to "players" is how you win. There is way more talent in the NBA today than there was 20 years ago. What changed?
Well, take a look at the Rockets. Mike D'Antoni looked like he was headed to Europe for his next coaching gig, then he found his possession guy in Harden...complimented him with Chris Paul now the two guards are like zoo keepers feeding all the Hippos shooting 3-pointers.
We all know the Golden State Warriors had a boatload of talent under Mark Jackson. Why did Jackson fail whereas Steve Kerr succeeded? He tailored the system to the players. Draymond Green is the war general making sure all the spacing is right so the Warriors can set up and score at will. But the REAL genius is the pacing. The Warriors know how to pace themselves so when it hits the 4th, they know you're gassed with all the ball movement as they put the pedal to the metal.
The Knicks are looking at their roster like a fantasy team. I can just imagine the war room, "Hey, Kanter got good numbers! Might be a steal!" or "OMG Utah Jazz just released Trey Burke! Suckas!" or "Ramon Sessions, he's had more jobs around the league than a 7-11 worker! Let's see if he'll teach Frank."
Let's look at the Top FIVE salaries on the Knicks guaranteed NEXT season.
1. Enes Kanter $18.6M
2. Joakim Noah $18.5M
3. Tim Hardaway Jr $17.5M
4. Courtney Lee $12.3M
5. Lance Thomas $7.1M
There's your starting five highest paid players under contract guaranteed next season. Anyone think this is a winning team?
No vision. No cap space. No relations with the rest of the league. No free agent interest.
And I know, Scott Perry got extra draft picks!!!!!! Not since Gerald Wilkins in the 1985 draft (Patrick Ewing #1 pick) have the Knicks drafted well in the SECOND round. That's more than THIRTY YEARS AGO!!!
The New York Knicks look like North Korea. They puff smoke but no one takes them seriously because the league knows, they're isolated from the rest of the league.

4 of those contracts were given by Phil or was fallout to fix something Phil did. I don't think Mills and Perry are much better though. The Willy trade showed me they don't understand the value of having great contracts.
Morey already showed how you build a team when he had to rebuild after TMac and Yao. Build up value contracts and wait. Its that simple. They had Lowry, Dragic, Scola, Parsons, Kevin Martin, Patterson, Dalembert, Budinger, etc. and turned those value contracts into slightly above .500 teams and were able to trade for Harden since everyone likes players on good contracts.
