Seeing how intellectually dishonest that Bondy was in that exchange though...I wonder...

I just can’t understand why a Knick beat writer has the balls to throw stones over here. ESPN has us pegged with a better future than the Knicks.

I know that must’ve hurt his soul.

LOL, that Bondy-Lewis exchange sounds like when I said Dinwiddie is "at risk of being a slightly better Kendall Marshall," and Prok thought I said Dinwiddie "is like Kendall Marshall."

Not an endorsement of Bondy's take.

Did you just Google "point guard anchor defense" and give us a random article by an unknown author?

1) This guy is talking about high school basketball
2) He doesn't bring any facts to support his claim
3) The closest the author comes to supporting his idea is by quoting a HS coach who talks about how his PG loves to play defense.

This is neither authoritative nor comprehensive in the least.

Did you think I/we wouldn't fact check it?

I didn't even click on the link. I've provided two examples of how in the NBA a great defensive team isn't relying on their PG to be a lockdown defender. The idea that Russell is the reason why our defense sucks is bollocks. We need to overhaul how we play team defense period.

it is unanimoulsy accepted within the analytics community and widespread among traditionalists that PG defense is unimportant almost to the point of being irrelevant.

it is idiotic to suggest otherwise, not even worth wasting breath dicsussing

Steph Curry is a negative defender and the Warriors are a top 10 defensive team. Most PGs around the league aren't great defenders.

Either way, the defense on the Nets was bad before Russell got here, if you want to point fingers we may need to start with the approach to how we defend as a team.

Steph Curry is a much better defender bruh. I didn't want to point out his flaws but so be it I've been called out.

curry has a been a pretty negative defender year over year. among the worst starters defensively in the league at PG.

Allenn needs to be a bigger presence on the offensive glass too. often gets boxed out by smalls to the point where he cant even outjump them for a put back attempt

I have not been following the defense discussion closely, so don't have any right to really be interjecting myself here. So I don't want to do that.

But. ... :) was I hallucinating or wasn't there a short period sometime in the middle of this season when the Nets were actually seeing improvement in their defense. I don't know what's been happening with their defense lately, but I don't think of Nets as hopeless on defense.

I knew we were bad .. I did not know 5th worst bad. :)

just remember a stretch there -- in January I think -- when the analytics on Nets defense for that brief period of time were surprisingly good. Not saying that makes them a good defense team - but I remember thinking, wow, they are not entirely as hopeless on defense as I expected them to be this year.

They have regressed is what I'm saying. They showed more promise earlier in season. like you said.

Defensively yes.

We went through a rough period several weeks back where we were getting pounded into the ground. We've been pretty competitive for most of the season, so as a whole I will say that we have improved, guys have gotten better, but there's a long ways to go and the coaching staff needs to overhaul the team defensive philosophy.

yep. the stretch where we lost LeVert and RHJ was when we were getting destroyed. it was a real low point.

I was just going to say this, once RHJ went down it seems like our chemistry did as well, then Levert started missing games so it messed that whole flow up, just wish they could of got back to that in these last couple of weeks.
