Re: WR Brandin Cooks traded to Rams
Why should any good player want to play for the Patriots? Everybody on the patriots can be traded even before playing 1 full year with the team EXCEPT Tom Brady. So Tom Brady is 1 of a kind gets special treatment while everybody else there's no telling how long you stay with the team. I be pissed if I was Brandin Cooks get traded from the Patriots to a bad team but since Cooks is going to the Rams this situation gets a PASS.

Re: WR Brandin Cooks traded to Rams
Jesus, Murph! Is your team done making moves yet!?
Cooks is set to be a free agent next year. I'm not sure trading a 1st for a guy with one year left is so great?

Yea I agree. We literally just traded a 2nd round pick for one year of Watkins and now we trade a 1st for a....worse? (IMO worse) WR than Sammy. But Snead has definitely earned the benefit of the doubt.Cactus Jack wrote:Jesus, Murph! Is your team done making moves yet!?Spoiler:

Edge rushers are really the only concern, so I would expect to sign one cheap and draft a few

They shouldn't. The NFL is a "spit you out" type of a league but the Pats take it to another level. On top of this is the whole "Do Your Job" BS which is great for the team but maybe not so great for your career. After the Browns the Pats are the next team I would avoid as a player.
As for the trade itself, I'm not sure what the Rams are doing. Is Goff or McVay retiring after the season? Is Donald not going to be resigned? What is driving this urgency for giving up a 1st for what is surely a rental? If you wanted to give big money to a receiver than just resign Watkins and save your 1st.
Naz Reid.

I still like Jimmy G. and the 49ers in the NFC West. Rams are way over hyped like they were back in the 70's.

Yeah, Jimmy won't survive (much like a certain QB in AZ atm) against that Rams line. Looks like someone got an early start today, as usual.

You get nervous over nothing. Rams used to do crap like this all the time in the 70's. Free agancy is always a horrible route to take when building a team. Stop sweating,

Usually, I would agree, but the rams have had a pretty nice free agency (I’m a huge believer in cooks still)

Sean Peyton wasn't a believer, neither am I.

Re: WR Brandin Cooks traded to Rams
The Rams are going for the SB. What's wrong with that? Pretty soon they're going to have to pony-up the huge contract for Goff and they won't have CAP room anymore for such FA splurges. Why not do it now when you have the chance? Also got a lot of expensive tickets to sell for that new stadium.

Re: WR Brandin Cooks traded to Rams
Why would good players want to play for the Patriots? Um, because you'll play for a team that's gonna win a bunch of games and might end up with a SB ring?
They would be at the top of my list of teams that I would want to play for if I was a good player. Just don't expect to hang around long, but 2-3 years of winning 12+ games a year and possibly winning a SB or two is a pretty sweet gig. Cooks was shipped out after just a year, but he also wasn't a great fit for the offense. If you're a player that's on a reasonable contract that fits the team well and you produce, they'll keep you around.

Re: WR Brandin Cooks traded to Rams
I'll repeat what I said last year: Brandin Cooks is not this good. He's being dealt because his trade value greatly surpasses his on-field value. Truly good WRs simply dont move around this much unless there's a reason (Jeffery, for example, and his injuries).
I think Cooks is a very solid #2 WR/fly threat. Been with 2 surefire HOF QBs and puts up OK numbers as the #1.. dont think he's changing the game for anyone. All that said, with what the Rams have been doing, I get it from their standpoint, so the trade could be win-win. But its a definite win for the Pats, and iffy for the Rams.
Rams looking great on paper but have to remember they are adding a lot of spotty personalities. McVay is going to have his hands full simply with that aspect: Peters, Talib, and Suh all were shed from their teams partly for those concerns.. at the very least, the Rams are by far the most interesting team in the NFL right now
