Re: 2018 Draft thread
TIER ONE NEEDS
I think there are a few positions where the starters could possibly be upgraded, and simultaneously, the depth behind them is fairly weak. I would consider them our top needs, in no particular order:
OT. Massie has not been a good pass blocker and Leno has been improving, but could be upgraded. Ideally we would get a new starting LT who pushes Leno to RT and makes Massie expendable or the swing tackle
OLB. We have Floyd, who hasn't had a double digit sack year and is oft-injured. We also have Lynch whose best season was his rookie season and also hasn't had a double digit sack year.
ILB. Trevathan has suffered a couple injuries and Kwiatkoski called plays after Freeman went down but he may not be ready to step up as a full time starter.
DE. Hicks, is a beast, but Bullard and RRH haven't shown much beyond their potential.
LG. Long is the only starter quality guy. Hopefully he comes back fully healthy. Kush and Morgan are the other options.

Re: 2018 Draft thread
TIER TWO NEEDS
Assuming we add a player to compete for a starting job at each of the above positions, there are positions that I think we are solid as far as starters, but need more depth:
NT. only have Goldman.
OLB. even if we get a guy to compete for a starting job with Floyd and Lynch, Acho is the only other backup on the roster.
WR. our three big receivers are each coming off of major injuries. We should add someone who is big and has potential to succeed if called on.
S. Bush and DHH seem to be special teamers. Could rely on them in a pinch, but no telling what will happen if Amos or Jackson are out more than a couple weeks.
QB. Daniel is a clipboard guy, and I like Bray, but there's no telling how he would play if he had to step in. Best practice to draft a QB you like every year anyway.

Re: 2018 Draft thread
Tier 2 needs can always be addressed late in the draft, undrafted free agency, or veteran FA post draft in some situations.
Tier 1 needs have to be addressed in the first part of the draft (duh) and maybe some more veteran FA after the draft.
I think 4/5 of the positions I listed as Tier 1 needs (DE, OLB, ILB, OG) line up well with the draft board from rounds 1-4. Here are the prospect I like in different rounds at each position. On each line I listed the players in each round in the order I like them, first is my favorite player.
OLB
Round 1: Chubb
round 2: Hubbard, Harold, Key
round 4: Carter, Green, Sweat, Nwosu, Ejifor, Holland
ILB
round 1: Edmunds
round 2: Smith, Evans, Vander Esch
round 4: Leonard
DE
round 1: Chubb
round 2:
round 4: Phillips, Green (again), Brown
G
round 1: Nelson
round 2: Price, Wynn
round 4: Ragnow, Williams, Smith
OT
round 1:
round 2: Kolton Miller
round 4: Harrison, Crosby, Rankin, Williams (again)
Composite Ranking:
round 1: Nelson, Chubb, Edmunds
round 2: Hubbard, Harold, Smith, Evans, Price, Key, Wynn, Miller Vander Esch
round 4: Carter, Green, Phillips, Harrison, Sweat, Crosby, Nwosu, Ragnow, Rankin, Williams Ejifor, Holland, Smith, Brown

I wonder if the Waterford signing is an indicator that the 1st pick will be a defensive player

I think they still draft Nelson if he is there. Watford at 1 yr 550k says he is a depth signing.

My idea: Jordan Howard to the Skins for #13
Edit: Rappaport says nothing is happening with JH. Good news

Re: 2018 Draft thread
Kiper mocked Nelson in round 1 and OLB L. Carter in round 2. ****. I guess the Bears won't draft either now.

Where did he say that?
I know he mentioned it back in early March when the trade rumor for Landry came up, but I can't find anything recent.

Maybe, but you can get a good guard in round 2 that doesn't blow out your salary structure in 5 years. Nelson is tempting like candy. But weaponizing that defense with a linebacker pairing along with Floyd is more tempting imo. You can help the offense by giving them more possesion time.

He tweeted it out twice last night. Says JH also removed his high school and college pics as well as the Bears. Long story short: the deleted pics aren't Bears related.

That word "weaponizing" really makes that response pop!

You're talking about Ian Rapopart right? I looked at his timeline and I see nothing mentioned. Maybe I'm missing it. Mind linking it for me?

Re: 2018 Draft thread
I'm good with Edmunds or even Davenport with the 1st pick, but personally...I want Fitzpatrick. The thought of teaming him back up with Jackson and have them swarming around under Coach Fange just charges me up.

Re: 2018 Draft thread
My comparison for Christian Kirk is Golden Tate. Even though Tate is a Lion I have to admit he is a beast! IMO Kirk can develop into that

Re: 2018 Draft thread
There's a lot of people thinking Rosen will drop because he's more than just a "football player". If he drops to 8 we have to trade with the bills.
Also, Taven Bryan is the real deal. Absolute beast. He should be a serious contender for the 8th pick. The only reason you cna have second guesses about taking him so high is because he's protected in the 20s but he's easily a top 15 pick.

What do you like about Taven to draft him in round 1?
