Sounds like what's to be expected of my #1B QB. Let the rumbling begin

"It's good to put up solid numbers in the drills, but I wanted to do well in the routes on air," Rogers said. "I think I missed maybe one ball."

In following with my stance that I don't comment too much on a 40 or other time without having seen it with my own two eyes I will just say that I don't think this will be the first time the words "Arden Key falls well short of goal" are used in his remaining football career.

If he gets drafted before the 3rd round i’ll be a little shocked. But as we all know, there’s going to be that one GM and coach that feels that he’s smarter than everyone else in the business and decides to invest an early day two pick on him. Having said that, I’d much rather draft him in the 3rd than Harold Landry with the 9th pick.

Arden Key - DL - Tigers

NFL Media's Mike Mayock said that LSU edge rusher Arden Key "looked phenomenal" in position drills during Wednesday's pro day.

Key (6'4/238) failed to make his mark in the 40-yard dash on Wednesday, with Mayock timing him at 4.89 and 4.91 seconds unofficially (considerably slower than what he had been hoping for), but he had earlier said that he thought the position drills would be his strong showcase. Right on the money on that side of the ledger, at least. Mayock writes that Key's short-area quickness, in particular, was impressive. The analyst believes that the LSU product's real test comes not with his drills or sprints -- those were clearly mixed -- but in how he addresses off-field concerns (particularly a still-somewhat-clouded absence from LSU last offseason) with NFL teams. "His job," Mayock said on the NFL Network's UP TO THE MINUTE, "is going to be convincing NFL teams you can trust him."

I believe this report because that’s what I remembered seeing as well last month when he went through the drills. I’d draft him ahead of Evans any day of the week:

Leighton Vander Esch - LB - Broncos

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline passes along that Boise State LB Leighton Vander Esch "looked tremendous during position drills" while taking part in Tuesday's pro day.

Vander Esch (6'4/256) opted to stand on his combine numbers on Tuesday. No surprise there given that he tested in the 96th percentile of NFL linebackers while in Indianapolis. He did take part in drills, though. And how. Writes Pauline, "He was fluid and explosive and once again showed no stiffness moving around the field. For Vander Esch, today’s position drills were the perfect complement to his knockout testing at the combine." He's now off on an official predraft visit to the Cowboys, with a slew of officials set to follow -- Pauline ticks off the Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills as parties which will all play host to Vander Esch as they try to get a read on the stud Day 1 linebacking prospect.

If James goes #7 to the Bucs, then it’s guaranteed that one of the two non-QBs will fall to us: S. Barkley, or Q. Nelson.

Derwin James - DB - Seminoles

Florida State S Derwin James is visiting the Bucs on Wednesday.

The fit makes so much sense. The Bucs have a need at safety and James is a versatile playmaker in the back half. James is a piece to build around, and the Bucs certainly have shown a tendency to bring in Florida State prospects. The Bucs are currently slotted with the No. 7 overall pick, an ideal spot for James to go off the board.

I like the person, not the player. I’m going to root for him but I hope he doesn’t end up playing for us. Easy kid to root for! Very frustrating player to watch on the field however. I think with all his athleticism he’s blessed with, he should have dominated the ACC, but he was just a mediocre player at best:

Josh Sweat - DL - Seminoles

NDT Scouting's Jon Ledyard reports that the Tennessee Titans have shown "a lot of interest" in Florida State edge rusher Josh Sweat.

Per Ledyard, Sweat will be taking a visit to the Titans in the coming days. He's a logical fit given their needs on the line. The analyst additionally ticks off the Redskins, Giants, Seahawks, Patriots and Saints as parties which will play host to the 6-foot-4, 251-pounder upcoming. He's aced the draft process this winter-into-spring, turning in a composite athletic score ranking in the 95th percentile of NFL edge rushers during combine testing and then backing that up with a rock-solid pro day showing. We view Sweat as a potential sleeper to jump over his Day 2 designation for a late Day 1 pick. He's shown more than enough over the past few months to warrant that kind of consideration.

If true, that's unfortunate. I like Street. Well-built. Natural athlete (4.58, 40 inch vertical, 700-lb squat in his past). Muscular. Good get off. Has some scheme versatility as an inside and/or outside guy for a lot of teams. Should be able to play in the nickel. Very good Notre Dame game. Dominated at East-West Shrine Week. Interviewed well. Needs to become more of a technician and quicker with his strength and punch. Length gets him. Might never reach elite pass rushing ability.

We'll see what does or does not come out first.

Sad, sad, sad. I'm not positive he would've gotten a ton of real reps this year anyway but any rep for him this year would've been valuable to him. More so for him than some other guys because NFL technique is going to be one of the big themes for him.

Because I’m 90% certain that a minimum of 4 QBs will go in the top 5. Chubb and 4 QBs will make up the top 5. I also think that there will be a 5th QB that will end up being drafted within the top 8 (due to trades and what not). If/when that happens (5 QBs, James to the Bucs, and Chubb at #4) then that tells me that Nelson or Barkley will fall to #9.

A minimum of four QBs in the top five? It's absolutely possible, but a minimum? I'd consider it a surprise, frankly. We'll see. It's an interesting year for QBs, but that would be a lot. And five in the top-ten would be something of a shock without an incredibly active top of the draft. I'd love to see it happen, I'm just not counting on it at all.

1. Browns - QB 1
2. Giants - QB 2 - still a toss up. They can go everywhere IMO still but leaning at QB.
3. Jets - QB 3 for their sake, the best one of the bunch after trading all those picks.
4. Browns - RB 1 / DE 1
5. Broncos - CB 1 no QB imo after signing Chase.
6. Colts - OL 1 / RB 1 / DE 1
7. Buccaneers - OL 1 / DE 1
8. Bears - ????
9. 49ers -

I guess you might be thinking of someone trading up to get QB#4? Unless you believe Broncos going QB...

Word is the Giants are looking to trade back, and the Bills desperately want to move up. Browns could certainly move back from four to get more picks. Broncos could move back, Colts could move back again. I do foresee a fair bit of action up top, but it's still hard to get five QBs in the top-10.

Pro Day April 5: Arkansas State

http://draftanalyst.com/pro-day-april-5-arkansas-state

On the heels of breaking the story on Kentavius Street last night we’ve been notified of another potential injury which took place during a private workout.

On Monday the Detroit Lions traveled to Wisconsin where they worked out fast rising safety Natrell Jamerson, cornerback Nick Nelson and several other Badgers.

Three unrelated sources tell me Nelson hurt a knee during the workout. I'm told it was nothing major and Nelson is still getting the injury checked out but some believe it was very likely meniscus related.

Hopefully that means they've got insight into him going in round one - preferably early. Couple guys on that list who could wind up sitting around for a while, including Griffin.

Return to San Francisco 49ers
