It's been obvious that Dedmon is a huge difference maker. Maybe we didn't offer him in trade but it blows my mind that the Wizards or Bucks didn't make an effort to get him.

Plumlee you say? Everyone knows Plumlee is arse.

Re: Dedmon trade - teams were probably offering some low ball ish, like a waaaay future protected 2nd unlikely to convey.
And from what Schlenk said this morning on radio, teams wanted the Hawks to take back salary for these piddling 2nds. If we need a 2nd that badly, buy one for $3mil, not take on $9mil for a 2nd.

This in a nutshell is the Baze problem. He drives wildly and doesn't finish well. The threes are usually open 3s. On a winning team he'll have to try to play more like Demarre and less like Dennis.

Ah, yes - the headless Baze routine.
On a team with better players he will have less ball handling responsibilities, he eould play a soecific role.

Maybe wait until Collins hits TWO threes before jumping on the Bud insists his bigs shoot 3s wagon again.

Jamaaliver wrote:Three point shooting big men are clearly a fixture in the Budenholzer offense. I don't like Collins being moved further away from the basket. It's getting away from his strengths as a player.

:banghead: I'll reach out to MC and request he get some additional feedback from Budenholzer on how he prefers big men to spread the floor as three point shooters.

Michael Cunningham wrote:Next step for Hawks rookie Collins: ‘Shoot the damn ball’ for three

Hawks rookie John Collins has attempted just 19 3-point shots in the NBA. But he’s attempted 15 of those 3-pointers over his past 21 games, making six, after he’d missed four attempts over his previous 32 games.

Collins said that’s enough makes to convince himself that he can be a good 3-point shooter, and now he plans to embrace coach Mike Budenholzer’s mantra of letting them fly.

“I don’t know about a ‘green light’ but Coach definitely is a big fan of, ‘If you’re open, shoot the ball,’” Collins said. “If you are open, and you have a 3-point shot, please shoot it. You’ve proven that you can shoot the ball.’ Now I’ve finally built up enough confidence to shoot the damn ball.”

Jump shots are a new thing for Collins. He didn’t attempt a 3-point shot during two seasons at Wake Forest and says he didn’t take any during high school in South Florida, either.

Collins admits that he’s still somewhat reluctant to extend his range because he’s so good scoring near the basket...So far nearly 80 percent of Collins’ shot attempts as a pro have come from within 10 feet of the basket and he’s been a very efficient scorer.

Collins’ ability to get shots around the basket and score efficiently there is evidence of his quick-twitch athleticism and soft hands. Why bother stepping out to shoot jumpers when he can get dunks, layups and hook shots?

Collins said, "I’ve got to take into account (that) me being out there, making a shot or not, creates better spacing. So I’ve kind of got to get over myself, do it for the team and work on my game and make some shots, you know what I’m saying?”

Collins can be a pretty good NBA player if he continues to produce nearly all his offense around the basket, do good work on the boards and block shots. But if he adds a legitimate three-point shot that opponents must respect, Collins would have a chance to become great.

That's a really good article. Depending on who we draft, i'd definitely want Taylor to come back as the backup PG. Heck I could see him as the starter if we needed it.

The Hawks may benefit from adding a free agent who can post up

One area where [The Hawks] must improve is their post-up offense. This season, they have run this play type [less] frequently (1.2 percent) than any of the other team in the league. And they have averaged just 0.73 points per possession when they do post up, which is also ranked last in the NBA.

Only two teams in the Eastern Conference have averaged fewer paint touches (21.0) per game. Similarly, only one team in the East has had fewer points in the paint (41.2) per game.

John Collins has been a bright spot for Atlanta this season, but the 20-year-old has averaged just 0.4 post-ups per game for the Hawks.

It’s possible that Coach Budenholzer doesn’t want the team posting up and it’s no accident that they’re last in the league in post-up frequency.

Nice video of Collins actually getting the ball at the elbow, with his back to the basket. I love it:
