Over Hyping the Rams
I hate it when people start to over hype super team in both basketball and football. Like what happen to the Eagles all those years ago when they got a bunch of free agents like Vince Young, but with the Rams signing Suh, even i have to admit they look pretty scary.

Re: Over Hyping the Rams
Well they are the clear favorites in the NFC West. You get into the playoffs with a favorable seed, you have a decent chance to get to the SB. Over hype? I don't know.

Re: Over Hyping the Rams
I thought the Rams were due for some regression before they went all-in this offseason. I think they are as good as the Vikings or Eagles now, but some are ranking them waaaaaay higher. What needs to be noted is that the OL stayed crazy healthy, as did Gurley, and that will be key going forward. But I have to say, I think they were in roughly the same position the Raiders were 2 years ago, and responded much better than we did.

The dream team Eagles was coming off the lock out year and was basically just a bunch of highly paid me first guys who didn't fit at all. Didn't Denver go all in on free agency and then win a super bowl? Why is that never brought up?

I agree. I also think we were as good as the Vikings and Eagles last year though too.FNQ wrote:I thought the Rams were due for some regression before they went all-in this offseason. The playoffs showed me how important a first round bye can be.
OL depth is something I'm concerned about because of the luck last year. We have one solid back up, hope to pick up at least one more in the draft

Re: Over Hyping the Rams
The problem is that the Rams have now used their top two picks in this draft on wideouts, given that the first-rounder is going to New England and their second-round pick was shipped off to Buffalo in the Watkins deal. They've traded a first-round pick for one year of Cooks at $8.5 million and the right to franchise him in 2019 or pay him a market value deal. (Franchising him would also take the tag off the table for Aaron Donald, increasing Donald's leverage.) Nobody can question the star power the Rams currently possess, but this is a team with little depth at a number of key positions and major question marks at positions like tight end and edge rusher. Those draft picks could have helped.
For all the arguments about building a team around Jared Goff while their star quarterback is still cheap, the Rams are built around players who are about to get massive contracts instead of veterans on relatively reasonable deals, which is the case in Philadelphia. Cooks can realistically look for $17 million per year. Donald is about to own Arsenal. Todd Gurley and Marcus Peters are next. Teams who operate this way, even with a potentially dominant core, seem to come up short more often than not. The Tony Romo-era Cowboys are an example of how difficult it is to get a team built around seven to eight superstars and have them be healthy and productive at the same time.

I don't think there's really been a team put together quite like this, so I don't think it'll be a big deal. As for his comments about depth. We have 8 draft picks - and the only areas we're really lacking depth are OL and LB.
We also have a ton of cap space the next two years, so we could actually sign most of these guys.
But in my mind, after two years, Talib and Peters are gone. And Gurley might price himself out of a contract with the Rams.

I'd be totally fine with that scenario btw. Take Gurley off the team, and it's a totally different offense imo. I'm all for it!

I can't help but think that Gurley will be watching Bell very closely. And if he hits FA next year, some team will pay him close to $20 million per year I bet.
At that point it'll be hard to re-sign him, and RBs are one hit away from not playing football anymore. But we still have a few years..
The real question is: are my three favorite sports teams all about at least make the championship game in their sport?!?

It won't be too far into the season before we see the devastation that Peters, Talib and Suh will bring to their defense.

If the Rams play it right, they will lockup Gurley. He makes that offense & team go. Not the QB. Not yet anyway. Gurley & Donald are must keeps. Everyone else on that team is pretty expendable imo.

Cavs: Of course.
Rams: I would put them as the favorites in the NFC right now...

Ohio State Football? No.

Haha. Wasn't even thinking Ohio State, although I think they'll be in the CFP next year.
But the Indians are right up there with the Astros and Yankees for best team in the AL too, even though I know you don't care about baseball

As history has shown, super teams usually experience a major injury that crashes down everything.
