Trade idea with the Knicks

Post#1 » by klassi » Fri Apr 6, 2018 2:48 pm

What do you all think of this trade with the Knicks?

Orl receives:
-Ntilikina
-Noah
-this year's 1st round pick

Orl sends out:
-Evan Fournier
-Magic 1st round pick this year
*-maybe a 2nd rounder or the OKC 2020 pick.

If we do this, we could draft Shai and have a core of Ntilikina-Shai-Isaac-Gordon-_____ (probably Biz starting until his contract expires). Speaking of contracts expiring, we would have a ton of cap space after the core has 2 years to work together, allowing us to possibly bring in a great FA. In this plan, the 20-21 off season, we would Biz, Noah, JSimms, and DJ Augustine coming off the books and only AG + rookie contracts locked in (maybe Mario as well).

What do you all think?

so we trade down, while taking on huge salary, while giving away fournier, and giving away another first rounder? for ntilikina? cool.

We also get their first round pick. I really think Fournier will be on his way out, I think him and Vuc are going to be on their way out because they're probably not following what our coaching staff has asked of them.

In some of our wins, I've noticed that Gordon responds in post game interviews by saying that we followed the gameplan. This happened multiple times over the season.

No

Whether it comes to fruition or not, this pick has perceived value as a future cornerstone piece to our franchise.

Unless we are getting back Porzingis, there is no reason discussing that pick in a Knicks trade.

No thanks. Ntilikina hasn't shown enough for this kind of deal.

I literally saw this same trade proposal on Reddit verbatim. I wonder if you are the same poster from there?

As for your trade proposal, it's a no for me. I think we can get much better value for Evan plus we would be further adding more money to the C position which is already too high to begin with.

Saw it too and figured I'd post it here lol. I'm personally high on Ntilikina so I would do it. People on reddit were very against the idea.

This trade is so bad I would think you're a knicks fan if not for your magic flair. Take on Noah's crap deal without dumping Biyombo's crap deal? That's 35 million per year in crappy backup centers for the next two years. Strike 1. Lose our best 3pt shooter (also one of our best drivers) who is in his early prime for a completely unproven young prospect? Strike 2. Move down 3-4 spots in the draft AND possibly give a 2nd rounder or OKC pick? Strike 3 you're outta here!

Awful waste of assets.

1. Noah's deal is trash, but its gone in 2 years (assuming this trade happens on draft night) while we take that time to develop our young core on rookie contracts and AG. I think our teams priority has to be to get young talent to build a core that'll be here for a long time and for me, I'm okay with taking on a short-term bad contract. Better this than taking a risk on Wiggins IMO. I also don't think Fournier is part of our long term plans, he does have a great skillset, but I don't think he works with our timeline and I don't think his defense and size is what our FO wants. Additionally, Noah was a Gator and our FO focused on bringing Florida folks in this offseason to build a culture, I think Noah could help with that.

2. Not totally unproven, but very young. That's sort of the deal with young players who aren't bonafide stars. Ntilikina has been a tremendous defender and has demonstrated a great feel for the game and has been a solid playmaker for the team. He was someone our FO wanted at the trade deadline, I don't see how that desire for him disappears in half a year.

3. I would be really hesitant to include a second rounder or the OKC first, I would expect more back (2nd round pick swap if we're giving our second round pick, not sure what we'd want with the OKC first), but I really like Ntilikina. And a core of Ntilikina-Shai-Isaac-Gordon is a situation where I think the whole is much greater than the sum of the parts and worth spending a tiny bit more.

1- not develop our young core with a better player chosen at our current spot than later on, while also having to pay Noah to be a cheerleader since he is injured so much. Give me Wiggins over this 10 times out of 10.
2 - Ntikilina is very unproved AND young. no idea whether he can even become an average starting PG.
3 - saving NYC from Noah's contract while also letting them move up in the draft? no way you add even more to that package.

tired of non-shooting PG's. We need one capable of offense, Frank isnt that nor looks like that will be any time soon

This trade would make more sense without the exchange of lotto picks. Even then, I don't think I'd do it. Frank just doesn't look that good to me.

Ntilikina doesn't exactly light the fire. I mean, we just recently witnessed 2pts in 27 mins stinker, while Knicks believe in him so much that they went out and got Mudiay at trade deadline.

Frank has started just 5 games in which he's averaged 26% fg, 0% 3pt, 2.2 ast, 0.2 stl, and 1.4 tov. He IS unproven. He's a young prospect that we would have swapped with Payton who was worth only a 2nd rounder, but we are not trading 4 places down in the lotto, taking on an albatross contract for two years and trading away one of our best players/assets to get him.

Biyombo for Noah straight up. No reason to make that complicated with other parts.

At least Biz is good in the locker room and can actually get on the court at times. Noah is quite the opposite, he's easily the most toxic contract in the league. Not saying they'd have to attach Frank, but they'd definitely have to include a sweetener.
