He's gone.
No way his athletic profile doesn't project to round one.
Kind of sucks because he is not that good yet. He truly needs another year of college.
That said Mark Turgeon is not going to make him any better.

Re: Official Maryland Terps Thread 3.0
MD's recruiting another tall thin graduate transfer player - supposedly "not related" to Bruno possibly going pro, but this guy actually put up really good numbers last season at ODU - Trey Porter. https://www.testudotimes.com/maryland-terps-basketball/2018/4/5/17200898/grad-transfer-trey-porter-unofficial-visit-old-dominion
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/trey-porter-1.html
Seems to be built a lot like their top recruit - Jalen Smith. He seems to have a big fouling problem - which has limited his minutes, but he had a PER last season of 27.9, TS% of .62 and eFG of .588. It was also reported a while back that MD was recruiting St. John's graduate transfer Tariq Owens - tall thin shot-blocker. Porter seems like the better all-around player of the 2.

Gotta be a tough decision for both Owens and Porter - since they don't know if Fernando's coming back - and it might be another month and a half before Fernando decides. I'd assume that if one of Owens or Porter chooses MD, MD will stop recruiting the other.

Porter is a longshot even though his mother lives in Annapolis and I believe Owens doesn't care if Fernando is coming back. He can play alongside him or replace him.

They already have center Schnider Herard (a former top 50 recruit) committed from Mississippi State, and Bender's returning. Supposedly, the reason Owens is leaving St. John's is because they didn't utilize him enough, so it sounds like a bad fit to me.

Bender stinks and Herard did nothing at Miss. State. He has some potential and is a big body but won't be playing until late December.
As for Owens, he averaged 30 minutes per game and led the league in blocks. I'm guessing minutes wasn't an issue. Maybe it was Mullin.

Bender does stink, but he'll be a senior and probably play some. Schnider did stink at Miss St, but he wouldn't come here if he didn't think he was going to play. Owens reportedly left because he didn't get the ball enough on offense. Bottom line - if Bruno returns - which could go either way, Owens will have to compete for backup minutes - which he might not get, and he's more than likely going to get the ball less than he did at St. Johns.

Again, Herard is not going to be there at the beginning of the season. Owens will start over Bender and play power forward if Fernando returns at center. Fernando is likely gone and Owens will start at the 5 at the beginning because they have no other choice. Herard will be the backup when he is eligible as will Bender. Owens has proven he can defend and rebound some. He's not coming off the bench at Maryland and believe me, Turge is not selling him on 15 minutes per game. He play alongside Bruno, but not that probably will be a moot point.

This is going to be an utter disaster when Bruno stays in the draft.

Yup. They will add another big from somewhere but this program is becoming a sh-t storm.

Tariq Owens wasn't going to make any difference for MD. If he started with Jalen Smith, they'd have the world's skinniest PF/C combo.

They couldn't promise him a starting job and I guess he would have started at center and played backup 4 with Jalen Smith playing the 4. So basically it's Smith at the 4, Bender (uggh) at the 5 until Herard is eligible. Tomaic as the only backup post big and then Herard comes in. Who the hell is going to rebound? At least they'll have Wiggins and Ayala as depth in the backcourt. "Sticks" is about 195 pounds soaking wet. If Fernando comes back, different story but that's a longshot from what I've heard.

Yeah, Fernando coming back is pretty much a must.

I would disagree about him making a difference. At least he could block shots, score a little and it's better than Bender/Smith or Herard/Smith or my God, Tomaic/Smith.

I have a little hope for Tomaic as a backup because he can shoot. But he's so raw because he didn't grow up playing against any competition. Smith might actually end up playing some center, because he's a shot-blocker - in the Joe Smith mold. And we'll see what happens with recruiting Porter. He seems like a more well-rounded player than Owens.
