Magic Off-Season
Not a Magic fan, but trying to get a feel for what the Magic are trying to do this off-season if some one or a few of you combined could let me know a detailed breakdown of what they’re likely to do this off-season.

Detailed breakdown: literally not a single one of us even knows what the hell Orlando is doing anymore.
this is my signature.

Re: Magic Off-Season
It’s all situational. If we draft a big, I can see us trading Vucevic.
If we draft a wing, I could see us letting Gordon and/or Fournier walk.
If we draft a PG, he’ll probably ride the bench behind Augustin for a year.
Either way, Mario Hezonja is gone.

a) Fournier is locked up until 2021. We can’t “let him walk.”
b) AG at the wing was a disaster. Drafting a wing does nothing to his free agency which will for result in him signing a max offer sheet for Orlando to match.
c) Vuc is likely out no later than the trade deadline regardless of who we draft. His contract is up at the end of the season and will not becoming back. You have to get whatever you can for him now.

Re: Magic Off-Season
This is a very good question that I think all of us would like to know.
Probably the #1 thing we need to figure out is if we are going to sign Aaron Gordon to a new long term contract or sign and trade him for assets or the least likely let him walk. Whatever management decides to do with Gordon could have a big impact on our draft decisions.
#2 The draft lottery is going to play a big role in our future. If we strike gold and get the #1 pick we would have lots of options as far as trade packages or having the pick of the liter. Or it can go like it has the last couple years of being 1 pick off of a superstar caliber player.
#3 The draft itself will be monumental for this franchise because we just plain and simple need a superstar. Period! We have some nice young guys but I don’t believe any of them have that alpha/superstar trait.
#4 Offseason trades are going to be a big part of how we shape this roster going forward. We don’t have a lot of cap room and this roster needs an overhaul of talent. No one is safe on this roster. I have a gut feeling telling me we are going to sign and trade Aaron Gordon this offseason. I’m torn on that idea because Gordon is my favorite player but if he nets us a better player that fits better with the front offices vision then I could probably be on board. I believe vooch will be traded this offseason for a disappointing trade package.
#5 Free agency will shape out the rest of our roster but without knowing what moves are made it’s to early to predict our needs.

- Resigning AG to a ridiculous contract, that he likely isn’t worth, at the sake of not losing an asset for nothing.
- Getting lucky in the draft and landing another cornerstone to compliment AG and Isaac.
- Likely finding another coach with Vogel getting let go by management that didn’t hire him in the first place.
- New management suggested before this season started that they would be “evaluating” the current team and make decisions afterward. Elfrid Payton is already gone and Mario Hezonja wasn’t optioned (likely gone), so you can read into that as well as most of us can at this point.

The Magic need guards. But how the lottery, draft and off-season relate to the roster, BIG-question-mark.

Re: Magic Off-Season
Our front office said they will make moves which will make us better 2-3 years from now. A lot depends how they value Vogel, becouse in our opinion many players were misused this year. Second thing is we have fournier/ross/gordon option which was very effective. I think they will draft Doncic, Young or Bridges, sign complimentary player, evaluate Vogel, try to trade vuc or Biyombo.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Re: Magic Off-Season
As soon as Portland flames out in the playoffs, the chips will fall this way...
1) We trade Evan, 2019 pick and filler for CJ McCollum who becomes our lead guard. This is a huge win because the pick ends up 24th.
2) We miss out on Doncic because we won the Dallas game last week but we end up with Mikal Bridges (who becomes Scottie Pippen)
3) We put out the word that we will have no choice but to match for AG, so the offers don't come. We re-sign him for a very reasonable $20m year. Plan B, we work out a sign and trade for a player, who turns out to be just as good as AG, a future 1st and we draft Michael Porter, who, being found to be perfectly healthy, is this year's most complete rookie (like Tatum) and plays great D opposite Isaac, who admits he really was never comfortable with the idea of being a small forward. Porter wins rookie of the year in a landslide.
4)We trade Vuc for a late 1st 2018 pick which we use to get deeper up front. This trade brings back a depth filler player and cap space
5) Our exciting new coach, Chad Forcier or Jay Wright, is a breath of fresh air, developmental genius, and offensive creativity. Every free agent in the NBA takes notice.
6) We swipe Marcus Smart for MLE since Ainge has an overflowing backcourt after Rozier's playoff breakout and Hayward's return. He proves to be a perfect defensive complement to CJ and his improved spot up 3 is always wide-open.
7) Mario, appreciating the FO's wisdom in not rewarding his poor play, begs to come back for $4m/year - then becomes an All-Star, seeing time at all 5 positions, he credits his off-season yoga regimen and vegan diet to his vastly improved speed and agility.
8) Martins apologizes for his past meddling and begins to win back the fan base by promising to stay in his lane and by deleting that obnoxious "Clap your hands" track they blare while the game is being played.

Re: Magic Off-Season
My hopes for the offseason
1. Resign AG. Hopefully for ~20M a year.
2. Don't make any irrational signings (Biyombo, Jeff Green as examples)
3. See if we can trade Vuc & Fournier for any assets (1sts, future firsts, expirings, etc)
4. Can we move Biyombo? at least explore it. I might be in a minority, but I'd rather have Joakim Noah than Noah and would explore how to get an asset out of that trade too.
5. See if we can acquire a real PG somehow (I'd like to get Lin on the team somehow, potentially in a Fournier trade).
Seems pretty simple to execute. Hope they don't blow it somehow.

Actually 1 player is safe that's Jonathan Isaac. He was hurt most of the rookie year so he can't have any trade value. Plus there's too much upside/ potential with Isaac.

In what world does McCollum fit this teams timeline? Keep in mind that he will be 27 at the start of next season and we will be undergoing at least a 3-4 year rebuild. The only thing that CJ McCollum will do is hurt lottery positioning and be wasted talent on this roster. There is no way in hell that trading assets for CJ McCollum on a team that already lacks so much talent is going to attract any free agents whatsoever. There is seriously a zero percent chance that anything on this list happens except for maybe trading Vuc for a late 1st which isn't likely either with him being an expiring contract next year.

Great points Mr. Martin. Why would we want a guy with actual talent, especially an ancient 27 year old? See you in 2030.

I get what he’s trying to say by landing McCollum and I see the appeal. However, it doesn’t make sense for either club. It’s a completely lateral move at the cost of assets. A larger deal with Vuc makes more sense.

Yeah because being at the 10-15 spot in the lottery with CJ McCollum as your best option is much better... I just watched this team go through 5 years of a half-assed rebuild. Im ready for a real one. I wasn't trying to be an a-hole it just gets frustrating constantly seeing the "Sign IT" "trade for McCollum" comments. It just doesn't make sense for the rebuild that we are about to go through.

A) I do not agree the Magic has a glut of guards. Indeed the SG play is amongst the league's worst. Shifting Fournier to the SG slot is a priority, if he is retained. Also the Magic now has terrible depth at the PG slot. After drafting BPA, the rest of the offseason will be about shoring the guard depth.
B) Gordon has proven he is a PF. He is now the safest roster starter. He must be told to spend his whole off-season preparing to play PF in 2018/19.
C) I agree Vučević could stay as a C. The only reason to ship him is because he is so valuable right now. Moving forward he will want a 5 year 120M+ contract. I am not sure GM Hammond has the stomach for that.
