Re: Transaction Discussion Part 3 (Trades, Free-Agency, News, Rumors & Ideas)
right about Lou being a volume 3-pt shooter
Tobias is not a G so not the subject here
wrong about the rest and completely unresponsive to the fact we can't play all 6'2" and below guys in a 3-guard lineup
and whoever's better on defense can't shoot
I like Ty Wallace but he shoots under 30% from beyond 10 feet
that does not spread the floor
Austin is 40% [actually 39.3% currently] on 3s and we're playing without a true PG, but fortunately he can get his own shot [41% on threes off the dribble, which IS Curry-esque, LOL]
no, he's not Steph but the Rivers derangers totally disregard his positives
just saying he stinks is not a discussion
it's a rant

Haven’t had chance to watch many Clipper games this season but how has he looked thus far? I assume he’s been better than Milos as he has started over him whenever injuries come up?
Will the Clippers be signing him for remainder of the season?

He's been really solid for us considering he's basically a rookie. Lots of upside, brings energy on both ends of the court, he can make plays and is great at finishing around the rim. His poor shooting is obviously the biggest negative, but he can work on that.
His two-way contract is almost up, but we do have a spot and cap space to sign him. I'd be shocked if we don't keep him around. Of course, we shouldn't forget about CJ Williams, who was also having a nice season before getting injured. Much better shooter, but also several years older, and we would need to cut someone else. We might keep him in the G-League until the off-season, when the roster situation gets cleared up.

Not a Clippers fan, but trying to get a feel for what the Clippers are trying to do this off-season if some one or a few of you combined could let me know a detailed breakdown of what they’re likely to do this off-season.

You can't talk about transactions without Jerry West. He was the one who got the reluctant Clippers to trade their beloved hero Blake Griffin after another injury setback. Almost half of the roster is expected to walk, but there is a rumor that West will recommend a house cleaning. By that, I mean a completely empty roster, making for a blank slate that includes 90%, if not all of their cap space cleared out. The tough part will be the following:
1. DeAndre Jordan: Player option. If the Clippers want to use him in a trade to bring back assets and replenish the cupboard, DJ needs to opt-in.
2. Wesley Johnson: Player option. A complete draft bust. Only Jerry West can help get them out of their contract. Otherwise, he's stuck with the Clippers for next season.
3.Austin Rivers: Player option. Austin is contingent on Doc Rivers. Another problem that can only be solved through Jerry West. Either Doc has to be traded/fired for Austin to want a trade, or Austin has to be traded for Doc to want out. Keep in mind that if they do a coaching trade, the Clippers and the team they make the trade with will be barred from doing further transactions for the remainder of the season, forcing Austin to go to another team. To be fair, Doc has brought out the best in his son when nobody else could and Austin has proven himself under a leaderless, starless, mediocre team. The Clippers could once again influence another change to the CBA should it arise.
4. Danilo Gallinari: No extras. An injury-prone player that maybe Jerry West can solve. The Clippers got him a year too late - when Paul's teams were desperate for an offensive small forward and were stuck with masquerading via point guards, shooting guards and power forwards pretending to be a small forward, it took trading Chris Paul to finally get their coveted small forward. Now a bad contract, the Clippers could be stuck with him for the next two years, making them lottery bound. Only by trading him can they get out of that pack.
5. Dead Contracts: Paul Pierce and Jordan Farmar expire this year, but the contracts of Carlos Delfino and Miroslav Raduljica have one more year. They are currently working with $902,042 already on the books, cutting their cap availability and increasing the luxury tax threshold by less than a million.
6. Two-Ways: Tyrone Wallace and C.J. Williams will become RFAs if they miss the playoffs, or UFAs if they qualify. The Clipper's best hope to retain their guys is to match whatever contract the other team sets for them. This is something the old Clippers used to do: under Donald Sterling, he'd let the other teams make the offer, then match it to keep their player. As an added bonus, the team is barred from acquiring that said player for a year.
Do note that the Clippers have a bad history with the draft. They've been known to draft duds such as Michael Olowokandi, and all of the best players they had were the ones they traded away on draft day or after one season due to fit, redundancy, fool's gold, or championship shortsightedness. Having Jerry West on board will make things easier, taking pressure off the Clippers front office and coaching staff - again, bad history - and focus on natural player nurturing. West can even conjure a rare gem in late draft picks: in 1998 with the Lakers, he traded Vlade Divac to the Charlotte Hornets for the rights of Kobe Bryant, drafted 13th in the draft. With the Grizzlies, he made them relevant with the coaching hire of Hubie Brown (Pau Gasol was drafted two years before West joined as GM). With Golden State, he helped the Warriors directly picked Klay Thompson (11th in 2011), Draymond Green (35th in 2012), and signed free agent superstar Kevin Durant (2016) following their Finals 3-1 collapse.
At best, the Clippers can emulate the Lakers/Warrior's championship success. At worst, they'll just be Grizzlies relevant. If they miss the playoffs today, an additional miss may be warranted just to clear out the cap room for 2019.
If I were in the Clippers position, I'd avoid quick fixes and saviors. Execute "The Process" by Sam Hinkie. Take a year or two of missing the playoffs for growth and development. Draft their own superstars to have other superstars come play for them, not the other way around.

main priorities are most likely
re-sign jordan, and hopefully in a way that allows us salary cap flexibility for the next FA boom
do well in the draft with two mid-tier picks
see if we can't get wallace/williams signed without messing up salary cap flexibility

The #1 main priority should be a coaching change if this team is serious about winning.

Can I get my name changed if we end up trading Griffin?

I'd think, judging by recent moves, the main goal will be building value using every avenue and maintaining flexibility. Get the best possible out of the picks but remain open to trading them if the value is good, same with our free agents, and similar with our (potential) capspace. I don't think anyone's untouchable, but probably the picks are the most unlikely to go out, cause they seem to think they can take more advantage of their talent evaluation skills than their market value.
Basically, who the **** knows lol

Keepers; Lou-Tobias-Harrell-Beverley and Rooks/G-Leaguers(Ty-Sin-Jawun-CJ)
2 first Round picks + buying at least one second round pick. That makes 11 man on the roster.
I don't give a **** about the rest of the roster. Hope we can convert those veterans for more youth. youth is fun, youth is life, youth is joy.

Don't think we can buy a 2nd rounder this year, because of buying two last year, one of them (Evans) had to be pushed to July 1st and counts against this season's cash spent.
There's a cap of $5.1M every team can spend sendin cash in trades for the whole year, and we already spent over $3M buying the Evans pick and about $1.5M in the Gallo trade, to help the Hawks buyout Jamal. So we'd probably have like half a million that we can spend in this draft, and I don't think you can buy a 2nd rounder at that price nowadays.
We could always push the deal to July 1st like they did with Evans, but with 2 firsts and a bunch of young guys, I don't think they're gonna want to keep pushin it and use another roster spot on a rookie.

Kawhi Already Check-Out in San Antonio?
Sam Amick, USA Today (4/14/18)
Consider the Los Angeles Clippers one of the many teams keeping tabs on the situation. The Clippers are planning a trade package if Leonard ultimately becomes available, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
Landing Leonard – who grew up outside of Los Angeles in Moreno Valley, hails from San Diego State and is known to be a favorite of Clippers consultant Jerry West – would be well worth the hefty price it would take to get him. Maybe the Clippers offer their two first-round picks in this June’s draft, and whatever combination of other talent the Spurs want in return. And suddenly, they’re back in Western Conference contention again.

Ballmer most likely unliked the tweet in question, but at least a couple of articles were cited at the time when it supposedly happened.

Beal is good, but he's not a franchise-changing talent worth trading the farm for.

If we need a star, then why would we be trading for Bradley Beal?

Beal certainly would be interesting, but not sure how much better he actually makes us.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Would you guys do rights to 10, rights to 26, and Bayless for rights to 13 and Beverley on July 1st?
And who would you want at 10? Assume that Ayton, Doncic, Jackson, Bamba, Young, Porter, Mikal B, Bagley, and Carter are all gone.

Wait.
We give up the 13 and Beverly.
Philly give us the 10 and the 26 and Bayless.
We srs? I'd do that in a heart beat. Call up Lawrence and let's get this done now.
