Pacers Off-Season
Not a Pacers fan, but trying to get a feel for what the Pacers are trying to do this off-season if some one or a few of you combined could let me know a detailed breakdown of what they’re likely to do this off-season.

I'd answer, but I have no idea what Pritchard is thinking or wants to do...
One thing for sure though is that I'm so glad he's in charge and not Bird.

Re: Pacers Off-Season
I believe the plan is to take on salary from a team that needs cap space and receive a first round pick for our trouble. Pritchard in the last press conference said he would probably look at maybe adding 2 or 3 new guys in free agency or trade but unlikely to do much major roster overhaul like he did last off-season.

Re: Pacers Off-Season
we had 10 new faces this year. I expect 11 returnees next year. some here would be more aggressive but we won't know for sure until after draft night and the contract option dates.

Re: Pacers Off-Season
I doubt we'll see a ton of turnover. Al Jeff is likely gone (as a player), and what happens to Thad depends a lot on whether or not he picks up that option or not. Same for Corey Joseph, but given our lack of a real future starter at the PG position, I'd give him better odds than Thad of returning should he decline his option.
I HOPE we'll see GRIII return on a short term prove it contract, because he does have a valuable skillset. Considering he's been almost entirely cut out of the rotation I am beginning to doubt that happens.
I think if we trade it'll likely be during the draft which seemed to be the biggest part of the off-season for Pritchard. Given our cap space, I'm betting Pritchard attempts to make the most of it value wise and take on some project young players or a cap dump to acquire another pick, or possibly move up with our current one.
Pacers typically aren't very active in the free agent arena, so if take a salary on for draft picks I don't really expect us to make a huge splash. But guys like Aaron Gordon, Marcus Smart, etc. are gonna be available if the money is available so I hope we'll take a swing if we are able.

Re: Pacers Off-Season
I think the needs of the team are something along the lines of:
1) Secondary scorer
Seriously, it's impossible to overstate how much Pacers struggle when Vic is out or having an off night. Although Pacers have multiple players who could turn in a good scoring game any given game, none of them are the consistent scoring threat who can shoulder the load when Vic is out. Interesting to note that this role is not necessarily tied to any position. Even an SG is fine, Vic can just slide over to PG sort of
2) Better "muscles" aka rebounding and interior defense
Even though Sabonis isn't afraid to get scrappy inside, and Myles is an elite shot blocker and has also shown signs of progress in being more aggressive, Pacers still get bullied inside quite often. And please don't remind me of all the offensive rebounds they sometimes give up. They have shown improvement in this area as the season progressed, but rebounding is still something that needs to be addressed, either internally or through acquisition of new player(s)
3) Better defense on the wings
Granted, most NBA teams could use an upgrade here. But Bogdanovich really doesn't give the team much here, and although Vic can be a hawk in snatching up steals, he's not an elite perimeter defender either. DC is average-ish. All these adds up, so a defensive upgrade on the wings will be welcome, and some say perhaps the draft could yield something
4) And, finally, long term solution at PG
DC and CoJo are doing good work for the team St the PG position for sure. Even Joe Young, as a 3rd string PG, is pretty decent. I would even rate Pacers' strength at PG to be above average currently. However, there is no clear succession plan at this position in the future, and both DC and CoJo would need new contracts, so it would be nice if Pacers can get this sorted out long term. Again, some has said maybe the draft or one of the G leaguers could be the solution here
Now, having stated all that, I would love to see Pacers sign Aaron Gordon, as he checks a lot of the above boxes; he's a good secondary scorer, he's active on the offensive board, and he has shown some ability to defend the SF position. Problem is of course, Pacers wil have to overpay to have a chance at signing him. At 20m per year, I believe it is an easy match for the Magic. If Pacers throw 25m per year at him though, there is a chance Magic might just let him go
Failing that, as others have mentioned, Pacers will probably try to get value out of their cap space by exchanging it for assets, such as picks or prospects, or just help in general
If even that fails, I suppose Pacers could use their cap space to add depth to the roster, and just focus on resigning Myles and Domas when the time comes

Re: Pacers Off-Season
I'd love to see us go get Aaron Gordon. I've been beating that drum all season. But I see it as a pretty unlikely outcome.
However, I do think Marcus Smart is obtainable and would be a great addition to our lineup. If I were to guess, I'd say Pritch goes for it and we'd have a good shot if he wants to be a starter on one of the better ECF teams. His perimeter defense would be a huge boost to the starting lineup by taking some pressure off of Vic and off the bigs by stopping penetration earlier. We saw the improvement in team defense with CoJo starting, and Smart would be an upgrade over that, even with his limited offensive game.
I'd like to see us call Tyreke Evans, also. He's likely gonna get PAID though. If Rodney Hood could stay healthy, he'd be a good fit - but his injury concerns are too much for my liking, and probably Pritchard's too. I think Jerami Grant is a serious possibility because he's friends with Vic, but we could just keep GRIII, and probably cheaper.
If Kemba is getting traded (and who knows with Kupchack running that circus now), I want the Pacers to get him, but I doubt they will. They're more likely to be a facilitator that winds up with a pick somehow.
Pritchard set up the books to make a strong move after next season, and it's our surprising success this year that has most people wanting to strike while the iron is hot. I can't say I disagree with that thought, but I imagine Pritchard feels like he can definitely be patient and conservative this summer and look to go all-in next summer. So I'm sure we'll see a couple moves, but I don't think we're jumping into the LeBron sweepstakes.

You have injury concerns with Rodney Hood but not Aaron Gordon? I find that interesting. Especially considering the $$ it would require to get Gordon.

Gordon's missed a number of games this season, but the prior two seasons he played in all but 6 games. Rodney Hood has missed 20+ games in each of the last three seasons. I'd consider it a bad year for AG and a clear pattern for Hood.

He also missed a lot of games his rookie year. So he is batting .500.

Re: Pacers Off-Season
Thoughts on this trade for the Pacers this off-season?
Indiana In:
Taurean Prince
Jonathan Isaac
Pacers pair Isaac with Sabonis, who I think could gel really well. Prince is the SF the Pacers need for their future going forward. Pacers front office appears to prefer players over draft picks, and this follows that premise.
Boston In:
Myles Turner
Boston gets a young front court player who can stretch the floor and block shots. Gives them an even more formidable young core to build around.
Orlando In:
Terry Rozier
TJ Leaf
Magic get their PG of the future who has proven he can start at PG. Leaf has shown flashes of a great offensive skill set, but obviously still needs to improve on defense. I'm not so sure Isaac and Gordon can really play together, so this assumes they choose to re-sign Gordon.
Atlanta In:
2019 Kings Pick
2019 or 2018 IND Pick
Atlanta takes a chance at the Kings pick being an incredible asset by trading Prince. They also get a mid to late first rounder from IND. I'd be fine with switching the 2019 IND Pick to 2018 if need be.

I'm NOT ok with helping the Celtics in any way. Giving the Celtics ANOTHER young piece under Brad Stevens would be kissing our chances of making it past the ECF for the next 5+ years goodbye. Just like the Heatles era. Any other team? maybe. Celtics? absolutely, unequivocally, definitely, 100% not.
Also, from a pure value standpoint, Turner + Leaf for Taurean Prince + Isaac is a losing trade for us imo. Isaac has shown us very little in his already injury plagued career and Prince is an asset that I think everyone is waiting for Atlanta to trade. If we're giving up Turner+Leaf, Rozier+Prince better be coming back imo.

I agree and disagree with you. I don't think we can be choosy on who we make deals with as long as we think it makes our team better. But, I completely agree that we 100% lose this trade.

Typically, I'd agree. But can you imagine what that team would look like in that case?
Kyrie Irving, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Myles Turner, Gordon Hayward, Marcus Smart, Al Horford... when they reach their primes that's a superteam, in our own conference. Can't be doing that.

Re: Pacers Off-Season
I do not believe there's any chance we're trading Myles. Actually, I believe that Oladipo is a hard no-no, and any other team would have to overpay massively for us to trade Myles or Domas. Any other player is probably available for the right price (although nobody will want Lance anyway).
Myles is having a poor season so far, plus some injuries. His value is probably the lowest ever. Thus it makes zero sense to trade him now.

Priorities
1) 3&D wing
2) C/PF with rebounding / defense
3) Two way PG or combo guard
1 or 3 ideally would be a secondary star or at least a good 3rd option scorer along with providing good defense and/or playmaking abilities

wing, yes. 4/5 Turner and Sabonis will mature. 1/2 no minutes available if DC, CoJo, and Lance all return. Sumner also has another year on deal.ahartleyvu wrote:Priorities

but you take what the draft gives us. if that's a guard rather than a forward, you take him.

Re: Pacers Off-Season
I held off answering this question I think we will have a better picture of what we need to do after the play offs. If we get the boot in the 1st round we can start thinking about what to do in about 10-12 days.
We've got 3 large non-guaranteed contracts for 2018 DC is owed only $2 million, Bogie $1.5 million and Jefferson $4 million. They could be traded to teams facing the repeater tax in 2018-19 and get paid to do it. The fact that DC and Bogie are productive members of the starting line up makes it tough to do that.

1) 3&D wing
2) C/PF with rebounding / defense
3) Two way PG or combo guard
1 or 3 ideally would be a secondary star or at least a good 3rd option scorer along with providing good defense and/or playmaking abilities
but you take what the draft gives us. if that's a guard rather than a forward, you take him.

PF/C as in Al Jefferson replacement. Think about if we had a solid role player there instead of him. And if Thaddeus Young leaves we will need more minutes.
Also for PG, i think we could use an upgrade. Wish we could find a way to land someone like Kemba Walker

I hope Ike is ready to be an emergency big next year in Al's spot. I'm quite happy with DC but we eventually need someone younger. now if Thad or CoJo do not return, then a lot changes. A playoff disaster could also change things.
