Of course they lose out on the 2nd round pick too -
yeah shame we couldn't draft Alex Peter's replacement late in the second round

This tells me McD got something for leaving that one pick gap...giving into that one pick gap. There's no f'n way it was just a faux pax

Funny when I was responding to him a few minutes ago in the other thread I was going to mention what you did because we had talked about it, but since I was responding to WG who is also a Bucks fan, I decided to double check the dates....and
2018 second round draft pick to Brooklyn
Milwaukee's 2018 2nd round pick to Brooklyn [Brooklyn-Milwaukee, 2/5/2018]
2019 first round draft pick to Phoenix
Milwaukee's 1st round pick to Phoenix protected for selections 1-3 and 17-30 in 2019 and 1-7 in 2020 and unprotected in 2021 [Milwaukee-Phoenix, 11/7/2017]
https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed
So when we talked about it before it finally made sense somewhat why we didn't get the second rounder 17-30 but now seeing the trade dates it once again makes no sense unless it was an error.

Maybe Giannis will demand a trade this summer after the Bucks hire a coach he doesn't like.

Re: The Draft (Postseason Edition): Top 4/16/30/59
Losing the random draw sucks, but I don't understand the doom and gloom. We maintain flexibility and leverage by not being forced to spend 2 of our 3 future draft picks this offseason. We'd be hamstrung to find trades on draft night, especially if moving up wasn't the option like we hoped, and we don't need to draft with the #1-4, #16, #17, and #31 picks with the amount of young players we have. Teams might still be interested in trading into future drafts while having a pick this year rather than 2 picks in this draft too.
Milwaukee's future isn't 100%. Jabari needs to be paid this offseason, and Bledsoe, Brogdon (RFA), and Middleton will all be free agents the following offseason. They're already capped out this offseason and will be for the foreseeable future if they retain their players, 3/5 of which have had serious injuries. That's probably why we had the protections significantly drop after their core goes through free agency.

I appreciate the thread title including our correct draft positioning.
I dont mind Bamba at 4, i think he'll be an excellent rim protector and could eventually be a threat from 3.
We've been whining about our interior defense all year, here is your reward.

Yeah, I don't really care and at least we should have two first round draft picks in one of the next two drafts also, so it's good to have those pieces, unless of course we trade them. The fact we have 31 is nice. I'm glad we have three in the first 31 because McD usually screws up at least 1 of his picks when he has a few of them in the top 32 or so. It would be nice if he nailed all 3.
Milwaukee should be good going forward, but they do have questions which you mention...a new coach coming in, roster decisions. But this year wasn't a real stable or healthy year for them. Parker was out much of the year..they fired their coach, Bledsoe had to be integrated, Brogdon has been out for awhile.
It's hard to see them drop too much because I don't know what eastern non playoff teams will make a jump. Not sure I trust any of them. I hope some do, but I think with a guy like Giannis they have a pretty good chance of being a fairly solid playoff team.

I think you have it backwards. The first draft will be super shallow because it'll only be sophomores, juniors and seniors, no freshman...

I definitely agree, if they retain everyone/improve and stay healthy then this is likely the best the pick will be. This would have been a good draft for it to convey if we did get stuck drafting too. Never know what'll happen though. Raptors should still be around, Cleveland could still have Bron, Heat usually stay competitive, and there are still other good young teams in the East like Boston, Philly, Indiana, and Washington. There's going to be a lot of mediocrity in the East for a few years though, so it's tough seeing it drop too far.

I'm not that bummed specifically about this pick but just another sign of our bad luck when it comes to draft position. I'll be shocked if we arent 4th

Re: The Draft (Postseason Edition): Top 4/16/31/59
In any way, if we get #1 we take Ayton no question about it and then try to figure out PG with #16, 2019 MIL 1st or whatever else.
If we get #2 we take Doncic, and try to figure out C with #16, 2019 MIL 1st or whatever else. That could be #16, 2019 MIL 1st+ for a top 8 pick and getting Wendell Carter or Mo Bamba.
If we get #3 or #4, I take Trae Young and then the same plan as above, combine whatever assets we need to in order to acquire Wendell Carter or Mo Bamba too.
I also would sign Derrick Favors or Ed Davis this offseason. Tyson Chandler cannot be relied upon anymore, if he is the #3 center and mentor that is okay I guess.
Scenario A
Knight | PG acquired with 16/2019 MIL 1st | Ulis or Harrison
Booker | Daniels | Reed
Jackson | Warren
Bender | Chriss | Dudley
Ayton | Favors or Davis | Chandler
Scenario B/C
Doncic or Young | Knight | Ulis or Harrison
Booker | Daniels | Reed
Jackson | Warren
Bender | Chriss | Dudley
Favors or Davis | Carter or Bamba | Chandler

Bamba has a pretty nice stroke for a 7 footer, I expect him to eventually shoot in mid 30's from 3 at some point in his career.
I wouldnt be upset if we took him at 3 or 4 either.

Damn, awful for you guys to lose that pick. You could've traded up for one of the big 8 and get two amazing players in the same draft.

Re: The Draft (Postseason Edition): Top 4/16/31/59
I actually think it’s better that Phoenix didn’t get the pick this year. You never know how the nba season plays out. Worst case scenario would be what ?
2019.. can’t have a lower pick
2020... I would be pretty confident the bucks won’t be a top ten nba team. So the pick is 20-22 at worse.
2021. No protection.
So it’s looking like the pick will convey in 2020, likely in the 18-22 range.
But has a chance to get a lot better and if Phoenix can get 2 unprotected picks in 2021, sets them up for a possible huge trade in the 2020 off season.
And as others have commented , with three picks , Phoenix would lose value. So losing a couple picks in 2020 would basically cancel out the lost in value this year.
Also now the Suns will have a little extra money if they want to go after a free agent this year.
Everyone wants the prize now, but sometimes the wait is worth it.

It's still a trade chip, now with some risk and yet some possibilities.
16/17 wouldn't get #8 this year

Not if people are smart, but some mock drafts have Trae Young falling to like 11, which would be asinine

Best case scenario with the Bucks pick is they miss the playoffs next year, and win the 4th pick in the lottery now that they're going to draw 4 teams.
That's the dream tho
