Bye Bud.
Hopefully we get pick #16 since Bud is still under contract.

This is so hard for me to say....Jamalliver was right :nonono:

Jamaal may be serving us some crow when all is said and done.

Notes: Bud is from Arizona and his dad was a legendary Highschool coach there.

The Suns have a better and more attractive nucleus than we do moving forward.

This is the first concrete information found on Coach Bud's contract: 2 years/$14 mil left.

Needless to say, I'm not happy about this at all, but it seems that Schlenk has no problem letting Bud go and picking his own coach. If Bud were to leave I'd rather it be immediately, before the top candidates (like Coach Nurse from Toronto) begin getting poached.

Why on God’s green earth would Schlenk allow him to coach in our “tank year” then let him go. If Bud leaves, Schlenk’s move seems questionable.

Yeah, that's confusing.
If he does leave i hope we end up picking ahead of the Suns.

I get the draw to Arizona since his family is there, but if he's fustrated with the Atlsn6ta tank but chooses to go to Suns?? The Tank masters?

16th pick for Bud is fair. Bud is really too important to what we do for him to go for less

This is what I hope we ask for if Bud does indeed get the Suns job.

We have him under contract for two more years. I don't wanna hear a word of this goodwill ish, either ask PHX to fork over 16 or we don't release Bud from the contract.

Coach Bud is a professional, I'm not worried about him acting like one and honoring the rest of his contract if it came to that. Would also buy us some time until Kenny Atkinson's contract with the Nets expires.

If he leaves to go to that moribund, ill-run franchise, he deserves everything he gets.

Yep, a 31 pick is trash. We got two late 1st as it is and none were got for anywhere near the value of Bud

You would think for once we control the cards. Like you said, Bud is an honorable guy and won’t get out of his contract as long as Schlenk doesn’t do any favors for the Suns or a goodwill gesture to Bud because it’s not fair to Atlanta Hawks basketball and to the slightly irritated fan base.

Koonin was on 92.9 the game radio this afternoon, and he was specifically asked about the interview and Bud's non-comittal answer - I don't remember his exact response but it made me say ...huh, i don't like that answer - Now I know why.
He knew Bud was gonna interview.

This is absurd. I was fine with tanking, but sheesh! We gotta lose bud too?

Bud waso going to leave in two seasons anyway. He got mad because we took away the GM role from him (for good reason).

Just hope there is some compensation in return.

Nothing is certain that he leaves
He has plenty going for him here in Atlanta. He has some roots within Arizona, but that doesn't mean he's ready to leave, so we'll see what happens. I'm trying to be positive because the last thing I want us to do is be on a search for a new head coach. The process is just not appealing to me when I want our organization to be completely focused on the upcoming draft.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
