It's basically the Jacque Vaughn situation again, except we need a better coach this time. We need to find our Brett Brown. Survive the **** early while building up pieces and then when it comes together, boom. Ready to compete.

The person we get will need to tolerate that our roster won't be great for at least another year or two, while at the same time developing whatever talent we have. Jacque tolerated the losing fairly well, he just didn't develop folks like he was asked to do.

That's why I think more established folks like Steve Clifford will steer clear of this job. Plus Clifford already had health issues this season (doesn't sleep). For his sake, I hope he doesn't apply.

I don't know much about Nurse. I know Vanterpool (Portland) was a name that popped up 2 years ago, so I'd be interested to see if we hear that name with this new management regime.

I certainly believe Stackhouse and Hammon should get interviewed. Both check off a lot of boxes. I think David Blatt could do well here. If we somehow by the grace of God draft Doncic, Kokoskov should be seriously considered.

Weltman is going to get his coach.

I think it ends up being Jerry Stackhouse but it will be Weltman's call and regardless, a culture change needs to happen.

She is the one coaching candidate whose hire would sell tickets in its own right. Hammon as a Magic head coach would be the lead story in sports news for a considerable period. It would galvanize a new type of Magic fan. Thus for ownership: hiring Hammon would sell tickets.

All players' exit implied the wanted a coach who played. Even LBJ recently gave an interview last week in support of Hammon, in part, because she is the definition of a player's coach. It is clear NBA ballers like playing for a coach that understands the professional-basketball grind. Whether the WNBA is "better" or "worse" on the players lives, I have no idea. But there must be a similar daily grind to it all.

This idea is growing on me.
My only concern is "what if she flops." That would galvanize a different class of non-supporters and would become a wedge issue for some fans. Still any coach that loses games will create that kind of frustration.

Tanking next year has limited value. The odds will shift in favor of the more mediocre teams.

The Nick Nurse one is interesting - I remember when he was head coach of the Manchester Giants in the British Basketball League in the mid-90s going up against Chris Finch (now associate HC for the Pelicans) of the Sheffield Sharks who back then were my team.

As a result, I really disliked Nurse and his gravelly high-pitched voice that I thought would grate on players but he did have a good amount of success. I never thought he’d make it to where he has so he’s certainly done well.

Along with Kokoskov, Hammon and Stackhouse, they are the four that intrigue me the most as coaches who I think could be our Brett Brown.

Budenholzer intrigues me the most. He seems like a person who has the X and O's of elite coaches, but also some of the foresight of today's modern trends like placing high emphasis on youth development.

Of the names floated around, I feel like I’d choose Monty Williams. He was successful in his first job but not overly so, most coaches improve by leaps and bounds on job 2. Former player so he could identify with player issues. Not a hot head like Skiles. I’m not trashing Vogel because most of the Magic’s problem are roster. I put that on the previous GM. But I’d go with Monty or maybe this Nurse guy, though I know nothing of him.

As a coach I would take Suns over Magic right now.
Booker is allstar, Jakson could be solid, Chriss and Bender are both 20 years old , they are picking top 4 no matter what. TJ Warren could be trade chip, Len and Payton and lot of other scrubs off books.

I'd love to see us give Becky Hammon a shot.
I've had a lot of respect for her for some time now.
One of the best female NBA players ever.
And a product of the San Antonio coaching staff for several years.

And I'm actually OK with a rookie coach as long as the supporting staff is high quality.
I suspect she'll have no trouble getting a decent staff of assistant coaches together.

It is odd that he's not mentioned more.
I wonder if he's even putting his name out there looking for head coaching jobs.

Booker is a legit piece but Jackson is a head case and the rest of roster are nobodies. Anyone who thinks they are on the verge of turning it around is insane. They are in the same place we are, years away from being competitive.

the Suns look good right now with Booker, Jackson and some really good picks.

that you list Chriss and Bender and the only attractive thing you can say about them is that they are 20 yr old says a lot about how bad they are.
