the other day i watched a documentary about johnny thunders on amazon prime. hes the guitarist of the new york dolls, and richard hell and the heartbreakers, and just oodles of other things. it wasnt a great documentary so unless youre a fan, dont bother. but if youre a fan, definitely watch it. apparently he introduced sid vicious to heroin. who knew? his death is still really strange and there are a lot of questions surrounding it.

anyways, so ive been going through some of his works. its amazing to me how much his direct style influenced, for good or bad, 80s hair bands. just the sleezy guitar style. i used to listen to the new york dolls and think it wasnt the same thing, but it was probably because i didnt want to associate the two.

The Flaming Lips and Phantogram are pretty good for free stages. My brother loves Trampled By Turtles. I'll probably see DJ Jazzy Jeff for some reason.

If you haven't smiled and bobbed your head to Lou Barlow's groove in a while you should probably just hit play right now.

It's a really solid album. I picked up tickets last week to catch them in a few months playing a double gig with Franz Ferdinand.

Drinking, frying chicken*, listening to R.E.M. and I'll fight anyone who says this isn't one of the greatest songs of all time.**

*not to make everything about cooking, but using the Thomas Keller buttermilk recipe- google it, it's excellent.
** deep R.E.M. fan so clearly not going to fight anything apart from my broken dreams.

Great little 60s esque psych pop project with some indiosyncratic songwriting from Cut Worms caught my ear heavily today

Scott Hutchison, lead singer of Frightened Rabbit, has been missing for over 36 hours now. He sent a pair of vague, concerning tweets right before he was last seen.

Hoping for the best for him.
