he went 1 on 1 because nothing else was working. thats our release valve when the 3s aren't falling.

Agreed.

The mask and the rust are very good reasons for his shooting and turnover issues.

This is why we wanted him to come back a few games before the next round so he can ease himself back into form.

I don’t think after 6 quarters it’s rust. Embiid out 3 weeks. Not like he’s out 3 months. 6 quarters playing embiid should have been fine.

He was off his game offensively. The mask is clearly bothering his vision. And his confidence. He has wide open 3 pointer straight line in 3rd. Thought about it. Than no heat defenders even bothered coming close. Than embiid thought about it again. I mean he had about 3 seconds to think about it! Than launched it and it wasn’t even close.

His 10-12 foot face ups were falling short as well.

Just bad offensive game.

But his defense was amazing yesterday. Rudy gobert May get the player of the year for defense. But embiid is way more mobile than gobert with chase down blocks. Just scaring heat defenders at the end with just his presence.

Three weeks clearly did a lot to his conditioning. He was so out of breath, he almost passed out during a halftime interview. I think he needs more than two games to get back in form.

He said that he had like 50 pairs of the goggles, but I wonder how many of the masks he has.

If they fog up so easily, he ought to have 3 fully functioning pairs of them and then literally exchange them for each other during stoppages in play.

If he is in the game for an 8 minute run, he should be able to make that into 3 short stints with each mask instead of dealing with a fogged up pair for the last however many minutes of each stint.

He should be able to improve his experience by 50% or so just by doing that.

So it will be 4 weeks this Saturday. Assuming (and I hate looking forward). Assuming sixers can close out the series. Earliest Sixers play in round 2 will be Sunday (that's assuming the Indiana/Cleveland series ends in game 6) Or it could be next Tuesday/Wednesday May 1 or May 2nd.

Maybe Embiid can wear a different mask in another week? One without the goggles?

Embiid needs to play like we did when we played without him. It’s sad but that’s what’s best. He needs to just be the guy who gets his points on put backs and garbage buckets. We can’t feed him anymore. He turns it over too much. He can’t see the basket. He can do what Amir does on offense 50 times better. We need to use Embiid as the 5th option. Until he can see I can’t trust him turning it over and over. Just dominate on defense.

In the short term I agree with you. His defense, and rebounding is dominant, and we need that to go far in the playoffs. His offensive game is rough though right now, and we were cruising without him during the streak.

We will need his offense to come around (and it will) , for us to go to the finals. He is just going to have to get used to the mask in time.

Disagree to a certain extent. Embiid still
Shot 13 and 15 free throws in both games. He’s gonna to get fouled. He commands so much attention on offense. Game 2 was lost cause the sixers was completely undone the last 4 minutes of the game after pulling within 2. They had no embiid.

Notice embiid was involved in both crucial plays in game 4 on offensive. where Simmons dunked it. Reddick with the screen but right next to him at top of the key. Embiid has whiteside’s attention leaving lane completely opened.

And of course embiid screen (illegal) for jj open shot with 30 seconds left.

Yes. The mask is affecting him seeing. But he still needs to stay aggressive. Remember the fouls he gets also gets the sixers into the bonus earlier as well. So sixers get cheap points at the line say when Covington got fouled after a rebound since sixers in the bonus.

Embiid will likely be wearing the goggles and mask for the remainder of the playoffs. This is why I thought it would be silly to hold him out even after he was ready. He needs to learn how to play with that getup. That means allowing him to make mistakes and learn from them. He'll figure it out eventually.

I believe I saw he wears the goggles to protect a detached retina. I saw online they take about 4 weeks to fully heal. So maybe he could lose the goggles at some point.....the mask has traditionally been worn for the remainder of the season by previous players.

Random but does anyone remember the Embiid montage video with this song: ?

It was either on here or floating around Twitter somewhere...looked all over and can't find it! Thanks

He said 6 weeks today. That would be the conference finals/potentially a game 7 in this series. Who knows though.
