Re: Non-threadworthy UFC Events Thread
I’ve had a lot of criticisms of Kevin Lee, but could you imagine how bad it would have been if he got what he wanted a while back, and they let him fight Sage Northcutt?

Wow, I did not think highly of Lee before this. I remember that Trinaldo fight where he looked a little susceptible. But this dude is taking the game serious. That was a ridiculous beating. 155 is stacked like crazy.
Also, all respect to Branch for riding-out such a journeyman career. Dude has just been put in there with two monsters and fared extraordinarily. He's a long-time Gracie BB who was effing up Rockhold and just KOd an all-time KO artist.

Yeah, it's actually compelling to non-fans now too. My girlfriend sat down to watch a bit of the Kevin Lee fight with me before having to walk off because, "it looks like a murder". Whereas: no one is revolted by Ben Askren or Rashad Evans.
Lee and Khabib are up to something different. It's a beating.

I feel like we have underwent pretty much the exact same journey with Lee.

I have no idea how true this is, but Ariel asked Lee if Barboza is just too tough for his own good and Lee said he actually started pulling punches in the second round because "Barboza is such a sweet guy and he was taking such a beating" (paraphrase). He said he has never done anything like that at this level.

Just listening to his Rogan pod now, he's super cool and thoughtful. I'm now a huge fan. From thinking he was overrated and a Covington clone like 4 days ago. Lol.
The guy has developed a lot of skills really quickly, is insanely talented, and evidently a hard worker.
He's clearly distinct from a Covington, meanwhile. He talks trash but has never been inappropriate or effed up.

Listening to MMAHour now. IDK why but I have a double standard for Branch. I usually am not a fan of the wet blanket types like Holly, just can't stand her for example. Branch is definitely the same way but I just like that dude for some reason. Happy he got a nice win like that.

Re: Non-threadworthy UFC Events Thread
Also mmahour listen. I still think Merab got screwed, even moreso after listening to his explanation. He got a stinger going for the takedown which is why he conceded mount so easily. Then he kicked his legs and gave thumbs up for the remainder of the round to show that he wasn't out. Then he just lays back for a few seconds after the fight due to his stinger and when he starts to get up the doctors told him to lay back down so he did. At one point Simon even pointed to him and said HES OUT HES OUT and Merab just looked at him and so Uhh no I'm not lol.
If the commission's justification for the TKO loss is that he "lost consciousness" after the bell then they should have to show video evidence that he was actually unconscious or STFU and reverse the call. He dominated that fight.

Is this what we have come to? Nonthreadworthy events thread for PPVs?
Dern misses weight by 8 lbs. This is what I was talking about why I wasn't really excited for her MMA prospects. You can't be that fat and undisciplined and expect success IMO.

Re: Non-threadworthy UFC Events Thread
I didn't know she was weighing in for 115 lbs. You could tell by the eye test she didn't have a chance in hell of making anywhere near that. She had a lot of chub even after presumably draining herself (or she didn't really try, which would be worse). And she had a wry smile when she was on the scale, before her weight was announced. Her opponent had every right to not forgive her, as it wasn't even the first time. That's also a ridiculous amount to miss, especially at that low of a class. She's obviously super-undisciplined before the bell sounds. She should be mandated to move up to 125 lbs now and most of her purse should have been taken. She wouldn't have been punished in the cage regardless because her opponent is just a showcase for her.

Re: Non-threadworthy UFC Events Thread
I think all of the hype has gotten to Dern's head. I mean her head coach in Arizona "invited" her to leave and told her she wasn't welcomed anymore. Now missing weight by 8 freaking pounds, that's seriously pathetic. That is someone not even attempting a weight cut, or someone getting so out of shape in between fights. Either scenario it is extremely unprofessional.
I feel stupid looking pack and knowing I posted on here that I was excited for her to be in the UFC. With her attitude, with the missing weight by this much and just sprinkle on the fake accent. Damn I'm hoping she gets a rude awakening in the cage. I will love to see it.
If it happens tomorrow I won't see it live cause no way in hell am I paying for that thing and I won't have the effort to (find a steam cough cough). This is one of the most pathetic PPV cards I have seen in a long time. I don't think this thing even cracks 100k buys. My guess is around 60k.

Shes always been bad with weight. She missed weight in 2 of her first 3 fights and had to move up to 125 for her 4th fight. She has now missed weight 3 times in 7 fights. And she does not look good at 125, there is a lot of weight that she can easily cut. You can tell it's just laziness and undisciplined.
And I hope this card does horrible so maybe the UFC looks in the mirror and holds up on some on these crappy cards and maybe 2-3 less cards a year to make more stacked cards.

Unfortunately Amanda Cooper has been submitted in half of her fights and now she's facing a grappling champion with a massive weight-cutting advantage. She's gaining a ton of fans in the meantime, though.

Yeah, not much to say about that one. They are loading up for a couple big events coming up and in the interim others have to suffer.
Usman tcb'ed as expected in a style mismatch against Maia. He's a beast, but could start committing more and learning subs to finish more. I'm thinking he should face Wonderboy in a #1 contender if he beats Till.
Reyes is a very promising LHW which was needed. Smooth footwork, timing, setups, and recognition.
Luque and Benitez are two guys with suspect records for the UFC who could back end contendership. Kept improving to become well-rounded, technical monsters.

Re: Non-threadworthy UFC Events Thread
If you're given cans, crush them. Maia could not have been a better showcase fight (40 y/o Maia on 3 weeks notice in the worst possible style match-up) and Usman did nothing other than neutralize him. This is a way to the title?
Leon Edwards is Usman's best win.
You can say, well, no one steps up, he gets ducked by everyone. Well, then how about the fact he has 1 finish in 8 UFC fights? He takes cans and...neutralizes their offense. Great.
Also, his striking has looked totally mediocre against Maia and Meek. Meek, especially. This is not a guy who should be getting a title shot.

Well, he's not getting a title shot, right? I mean I would think at the very least, Colby/RDA is next.
Also, not sure what else Usman should be doing. He was going to fight Ponzinibbio who fell out. He has been calling out RDA/Colby, etc. for a long time. Ariel has called him the single most ducked fighter in the entire promotion. Of course Maia didn't duck him because that's just not who Maia is. Maia/Edwards/Moraes/Meek off the top of my head. Those are not cans lol regardless of what you think about how he won.
I do agree that I'd like to see him fight someone that he isn't such a good matchup for him stylistically.

They're not cans. But they are there to be 'crushed', if Usman is actually fit to be in there with RDA (who is a destroyer).
His last two fights have been real poor. Call out RDA and Colby, if you don't get them, prove a point. He had a 40 y/o Maia in desperation mode for a good 15 minutes, he did nothing. And Meek exposed his stand-up, likewise.
Put on clinics, you're so good. That's how Khabib did it. That's how GGG has done it. These guys were ducked hard for a couple years each - like few fighters in recent times. What they did was provide convincing, spectacular wins of the guys they did face. They only ever had middling opponents but they managed to get attention by beating them decisively. What has Usman done? Let a BJJ player spam guard pulls for 5 rounds?
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.
