4:44 got Jay halfway to canceled but being mistaken and slow is different than open self hate. Like most of these dudes ain't smart but they also aren't malicious. Kanye is probably the only major rapper that can be accurately described using the term white supremacist.

Like Story Of OJ got well known for the opening where he mentions OJ acting like he isn't black but then Jay spends the rest of the song chastising black people for not buying expensive art and profiting off real estate (with no mention of redlining or all the major reasons black people are underrepresented in home ownership). It comes off very "I got mine why can't you".

Cars lose value. Art doesn’t. Credit is literally needed for everything but we don’t seem to instill the importance of having good credit in our youth. That being said, Jay is damn near 50 with his pockets set and a wife that matches those same pockets. It’s an older dude telling the younger guys to take a different route from him in what to prioritize financially.

I would see it that way if he wasn't doing it by comparing what most people spent their money on when they're young (living) to what he was when he was young and rich (jewelry, cars, strippers). Like keep it real 95% of dudes out here can't afford to blow or invest money in the ways Jay-Z talked bout in that song so his message isn't needed. Plus if you listen to the rest of the album he paints a similar picture about black people needing to invest and comparing them to other groups of people and their wealth (mainly the Jewish) at too many points for me to chalk it up to bad wording.

I'd say Rich Dad, Poor Dad (which I've read a few times) also completely ignores the realities of America for minorities in favor of a bootstraps theme.

I can see why people would be turned off from certain things but a lot of his music is just way too good. You don't know what anybody really does behind closed doors or the damage or harm they cause others, so I can let certain things slide. I would say a political ideology that extols laying on your azz instead of working, advocating and harboring people who enter this country illegally ( fun fact more than 20% of the dreamers have criminal records) and separate and identify people based upon race instead of their humanity and merits is more akin to self-hatred and psy ops.
