Re: AND WITH THE NINTH PICK OF THE 2018 NFL DRAFT...
Jessie Bates III in the second for McShay, to help replace Eric Reid. If they were worried about replacing Eric Reid, they would just re-sign Eric Reid. They have three guys who are better-suited to the system than Reid at safety right now. I could live with a Fitzpatrick or James pick in the first because that guy would (probably) be an upgrade over what we have now, even though safety is a position of relative strength for us. But taking a guy like Bates in the second wouldn't be a stellar pick in my book. Then Sweat in the third. There's some upside there, and it's obviously a position of need, but it's a little early for Sweat. He's rising too much because of the combine. Anthony Averett later in the third seems like decent value, but I'm not sure he's a fit for our D.

Re: AND WITH THE NINTH PICK OF THE 2018 NFL DRAFT...
Most if not all draft analysts don't closely follow the teams they mock players too which is why you get some really questionable mocks. It's understandable considering it would be a difficult feat to intensely follow the players in college and then have to keep close tabs on 32 NFL teams.
The 9ers are happy with the group of Safeties they have and if they do select one it would be because the talent there is far and away above who else is on the board at that time.
Same story with LB. They haven't given up on Rueben and they'll likely draft some insurance at the position but I don't think they see LB as a need and will only draft one at #9 if again the talent is ahead the rest of the board.
They've been kicking the tires hard on pass rushers and my guess is their focus is Davenport or Landry.
CB is likely a major area of interest as well since Sherman is a question mark and the depth isn't great there. But I think they'd rather add a guy later to develop than snag one early.
Ultimately what I think they would love to do is trade down and pick up more picks while still being able to grab a player they want.

Kiper's three-rounder:
1: LB Roquan Smith
2: CB Isaiah Oliver
3a: WR Dante Pettis
3b: RB Kerryon Johnson
Tough to take too strong a view as I don't know what other players were available, but I like it a heck of a lot more than McShay's. That seems a bit high for Pettis, but otherwise I don't have a major gripe.

Isaiah Wynn - G - Bulldogs
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline believes that Georgia G Isaiah Wynn is solidifying himself as the second guard to come off the board.
Coming into "draft season," it was widely assumed that UTEP G Will Hernandez would be the second guard to come off the board. Now, it appears that Wynn just might earn that honor. " Both followed up quality seasons with terrific performances at the Senior Bowl, but teams feel Wynn’s athleticism and ability to line up in a zone-blocking scheme make him the No. 2 prospect at the guard spot," writes Pauline. Wynn could go in the first round, with the Seattle Seahawks being a frequent target with pick 18.

Frank Ragnow - G - Razorbacks
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline believes that three centers will be drafted by the middle of the second-round.
Pauline expects Iowa C James Daniels and Ohio State's Billy Price will go in the first round, and that while Price came in with the highest helium, Daniels could go first because of Price's pectoral issues. Pauline also hears that Arkansas C Frank Ragnow will go in the middle of the second round, and that the New England Patriots could be interested in him. Centers often go lower in the draft because of presumed positional value, but they've made a comeback over the last few years, and this appears to be a strong class.

Antonio Callaway - WR - Gators
Florida WR Antonio Callaway is taking an official predraft visit to the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday.
Rotoworld's Josh Norris on this one. The Browns and Jets have both additionally shown interest in troubled wideout Callaway. We've seen some outlets forward him as being a potential Round 2 selection this spring, an idea that just doesn't hold much water in our minds. It's not that the NFL won't take early fliers on talented-but-troubled players -- more that Callaway got himself into trouble (at times serious trouble) throughout his collegiate career in Gainesville. We think it's fair that some isolated incidents which result from "kids being kids," such as a marijuana citation or a misdemeanor incident of public intoxication, can be overlooked by the NFL in the evaluating process. Callaway's case, however, is one of consistent malfeasance.

Courtland Sutton - WR - Mustangs
NFL Media's Lance Zierlein took to Twitter to note that he's beginning to hear from NFL sources that SMU WR Courtland Sutton could be drafted before Alabama WR Calvin Ridley.
Ridley has been widely viewed as the No. 1 receiver in this class for much of the evaluating season, but whether he can hold that perceived pole position should probably be considered an open question at this point. The 6-foot-3, 218-pound Sutton has the clear size advantage over Ridley and did more than enough in testing to reassure that he has the foot speed for the pros. This is all probably music to the ears of Rotoworld's Thor Nystrom, who has been driving the Sutton bandwagon throughout the winter and spring.

It's lying season and I don't buy for a second that the 9ers front office or any NFL has leaked anything about which player they prefer.
Sure you can project who they might be interested by the talent of the players, the needs, and who've they've shown interest in by who've they met but I take it with a grain of salt that anybody knows who they will pick.

I tend to agree. That said, they weren't exactly a vault last year, with Thomas and Foster linked to them repeatedly before the draft. I'm hoping it's just talk as I'm far from sold on Edmunds.

Armstead was linked to them also a couple of years back. I know it is not exactly the same front office.

Tremaine Edmunds - LB - Hokies
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports that the San Francisco 49ers "covet" Virginia Tech LB Tremaine Edmunds.
Pauline notes that the 49ers have also shown interest in Boise State LB Leighton Vander Esch and could trade down to select him, but that they won't do that if Edmunds (6'5/253) is still on the board on Thursday. The 49ers have an obvious need at linebacker, and Edmunds is seen by many as one of -- if not the -- best at the position the class.

Roquan Smith - LB - Bulldogs
ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. moved Georgia LB Roquan Smith up to third on his Big Board.
Kiper also updated his board from his top 100 to his top 300, which is a lot of players. Penn State RB Saquon Barkley and NC State edge-rusher Bradley Chubb remain the top two, but Smith moves ahead of Notre Dame G Quenton Nelson, with Nelson moving to fourth. Smith's stock has exploded from being a potential second-round pick to a player that just might be the first defender off the board. This seems to be the "safe" defensive pick in the 2018 draft.

An Edmunds pick wouldn't excite me or cause me to be angry. It's just meh..
But drafting McGlinchey at pick #9 would cause me to be upset.

Derwin on the board and we take McGlinchey.
Was watching with my Raider buddies and they recorded the Niner fans in the room as the pick happened, but then they recorded themselves as they took Kolton Miller.... the video cut off fast.

I’m still somewhat in shocked that we passed up on Derwin James. My very first post in this thread predicted a Derwin James selection that’s how much of a no brainer that pick should have been. Smfh!!
I still like Lynch as a GM. Something tells me that it wasn’t totally his fault. It was Shanahan’s call (just like CJ Beatherd and Kapri Bibbs) and he was coerced into making that selection. John Lynch seems to be very transparent with the media/fans. I think it might’ve been Crims/Pozz/Sick/Ray? I don’t remember but a couple days ago one of the fellas posted a blog of some sort that provided some insight into that pick. Something to the extent of Lynch going as far as to the saying that it was an extremely hard decision to pass up on Derwin James. To me at least, based on his tone it sounded like he was trying to say that ultimately it wasn’t his preference. Him being a team player in the room, he was forced indirectly into drafting McGlinchey
