Lansing really roughed up Hunter Greene. 0.2 of an inning, 7 ER.

Another nice night for Cavan Biggio (and the rest of the NH attack). His third homer in three games, avg to .314, although Francisco Rios got pummelled in the first inning, costing the team a loss. Anyway, for me, the Fisher Cats are all about My Three Sons now.

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Biggio is hitting very well.
Would be great to have a quality left handed bat with real power come up.
Maybe Tellez could bounce back as well but so far not looking good

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Speaking of infielders, signed or likely to be signed, Kevin Smith, the Jays fourth round pick last June, is another SS candidate. He's 21 (22 in July). So far tonight for Lansing, he's hit a double and a homer for 5 RBIs, and I believe that puts him in the MWL lead. Average now to .300. Game is young. From New Hampshire pretty on down, this organization has interesting infield talent.
Yennsy Diaz threw five n0-hit innings for Lansing, gave up 4BB and K'd 5. He threw 85 pitches, so they didn't send him out for the sixth inning.

Biggest concern remains that he walks a tonne of batters, something that he might be able to get away with in low-A, but which will burn him in a big way at a higher level.

**** your asterisk.

I’m disappointed in the start to the season Logan Warmoth is having.

Maybe it’s just me but the ‘safe college picks’ or the guys with ‘no real weakness’s but average tools across the board’ are the kind of guys I hate talking in the first few rounds of the draft. Still early in the season and trying not to put too much weight on the SSS

So what do you guys think of Biggio? Current OPS is 1.146.

He is another middle infielder that we have who has average tools across the board. He had been ranked outside of the top 20 on the prospect lists thanks to he poor batting avg and strikeout problem last year. Warmoth began the season as top 10 prospect is a great contrast to Biggio, they are actually born in the same year.
According the reports Biggio had a exaggerated bat wiggle, but his highlights this year don't have it. Maybe the mechanical change is the contribution to his breakout season. He always show great patience, but overall I am expecting him to come back to earth a little.
If he really keeping his average in game power, he will become a left handed hitting 2nd basemen who can hit 17-25 HR with decent OBP and can steal some bases too, a.k.a Chase Utley's numbers. That is too good to be true, so I am just dreaming.

His hands are also lower. At pitch release, they're just about shoulder height in the bottom video; in 2017, they were damned near above his head, with his back elbow splayed way out. Shorter swing path can make quite a bit of difference.

**** your asterisk.

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
All of this is super SSS. Warmoth is disappointing but he isn't striking out at an absurd rate or anything, so its hard to really take much away from his start so far. Its too early to make much of Biggio's start as he's defying his whole scouting profile, can a swing change be the difference? Maybe, but I wouldn't be calling him a legitimate prospect yet. Kevin Smith hit another three doubles yesterday and he's brought his strikeout rate down so far this season; he is more interesting simply because he has legit SS defense and above-average pop and was seen as a Comp/2nd round type prospect after his Cape Cod performance before he had a terrible last season at Maryland. The swing and miss will likely always be there, but guys who can play SS and hit for some power have starter potential in the MLB.

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
It's absolutely too early to declare Biggio a major prospect or anything, but there's enough there to suggest that he at least has a bit more pop than one would assume from last year. I mean, he isn't going to post an ISO of .377 for the year, but he probably isn't going to be in the .130 range he was last year, either.
Smith is definitely one that merits watching. With Warmoth above him, and the swing-and-miss he showed last year in rookie ball, we'll probably take it fairly slow this season, and that's fine by me.

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Almost a month of observing the farm teams' production and two things leap out. Save for Buffalo, which was missing Alford and Pompey for most of the month, the other farm teams have an inordinate amount of prospects hitting .300 or better. There's a lot of offence in the full-year system. And it suggests a lot of internal competition, sometimes just to get into the lineup every day. The pitching, aside from a handful, is less exciting, costing the teams many leads, and even wins. Zeuch and Reid Foley are interesting, Borucki's last start was better, we have discussed Romano and Diaz, but aside from those guys, the system lacks the depth to fill the looming vacancies in the Jays' rotation any time soon with quality and provide trade assets. The fact that Pearson hasn't thrown a pitch in a regular season game is concerning. Like many Jays injuries, what is initially described as a minot issue soon is enveloped by the cone of silence.
