I'd still take Bagley and Bamba over him, he just seems like a risky pick to me.

How is he risky? He's going to be a plus defender at the next level and will be able to shoot some. At worst he's going to be a role player for a long time.

For me the biggest issue is his at worst is a very likely outcome.

I can see where you are coming from. But that is quite the opposite from risky. Honestly I think that Jackson is a super safe pick. Looking back in 10 years I don't see a case where he doesn't end up being one of the top 15 players of his draft class. He might not crack top 5, but there is basicly no chance that he totally busts.

How does he compare to Derrick Favors coming into the league?

i'd guess he'll measure just a bit better (thought Favors measured really well), he has a legit 3pt shot as an 18 year old, and he's a better rim protector.
biggest difference is that he can hit from range at age 18. Favors is just now starting to develop a corner three.

Serge Ibaka's peak: 15-8-2 on 54 / 38 / 84 and All-Defensive 1st Team
If he had been an All-Star I think that would have helped Jaren Jackson.

I see Bamba's weaknesses as far more concerning than JJJr's. Weaknesses like a highly questionable motor on both ends of the court, super weak lower body, and lack of lateral quickness for switching out on guards on defense are all traits which very few big men have come into the league with and have been able to fix. I'd take JJJr's weaknesses (not great shooting form, weak ball handling, foul troubles) as far less concerning because they are more fixable than Bamba's.
What I consider risky is how serious those weaknesses are and then how fixable they are. I consider those listed Bamba weaknesses as fairly serious and if those weaknesses aren't easily fixable then that's a real problem.
On the plus side, Bamba really does have potential to be an elite rim protector, near Gobert level potentials. But Gobert's effectiveness on defense extends far further than just rim protection; his anticipation, reaction speed and overall defensive IQ is what elevates him from an elite rim protector into a DPOY territory anchor. I don't see much of that with Bamba. I see some of that with JJJr and those attribute I rate far more than whatever advantages Bamba has with his wingspan

Something about Jaren Jackson Jr. rubs me the wrong way as a prospect. I can't point my finger on it.
To be honest, I'm more impressed with Jontay Porter watching both players. I don't see what Jackson Jr. gives you over Porter other than better rim protection. Jontay is a better scorer, better rebounder, has better handles, a better passer, etc.

JJJ is the youngest player in the draft. Serge was practically early 30s when he was a rookie
Imagine that production in this era of basketball for 10+ years.

JJJ is a better athlete, has better length and blows him away in advanced stats.

Isn't Jontay a horrible rim finisher though? I heard something like 50% at the rim, that's not what you want in a center.
But he's damn young and could improve more than most in the draft...he's supposed to be in HS right now.

I think he ends up as best big in draft
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

JJr is really bad too inside and I don't think he has much more than spot up shooting potential because of his weird pulling mechanics from his chest limits him off the dribble.

Yeah I'm interested in seeing what his shot looks like when workouts come around. Right now his form is pretty much Lonzo Ball level in terms of being unable to do anything but set shooting, and Lonzo was at least making shots from NBA range in college.

18 year old that has shades of Joakim Noah coming out of Florida. That's what I see.

Jacson: 65% at the rim
Bagley: 76% at the rim
Bamba: 78% at the rim
Ayton: 82% at the rim

Just a few other names of the past for comparison
Embiid: 76%
KAT: 75%
Davis: 87%
I agree that this is what I expected as well. Jackson's length is a big key for him defensively. But when it comes to finishing in the paint, I think the lack of explosiveness and strength hurts him.
