Serious? Phil was one of the few who was up on him. He actually wanted BOTH guys.

No proof of that.
Even so, he should have secured Mitchell first and then tried to get Frank.

There is proof. Hahn was just talking about it the other day. He spoke with guys from the Knicks huddle, there were two sides/opinions. Mitchell was what one side wanted, Frank the other. The Frank side won the argument. We 100% did have interest in Mitchell. Not only did we work him out, but there was actually someone on our scouting team that knew Mitchell growing up and had the foresight. It was from HahnSolo's show either Monday or Tuesday.

So much connection between Mitchell and Knicks now it was prolly the best possible outcome for us he went to a good organization like Utah first for his development

I don’t give a flying fuq about Hahn. He’s trash.

We should have taken Mitchell 1st. Period.
Try to get Frank later. With the way he just played this year his stock would have dropped anyway.

As a matter of fact, we need to go find some rookies that played like crap and see if we can get them for cheap.

Should have never re-signed him.
But Phil needed a fall guy and Melo was dummy enough to think Phil knew what he was doing as a POBO.

Phil should have let him walk. Next season get the 1st overall pick, work the trade with whomever drafted KP, and have another lotto next season to make up for the one we lost.

Here's the thing about Melo, the Knicks really really wanted to win with him. Melo really really wanted to win with NYK. The problem wasn't Melo. It was the salary cap. The Knicks dumped a lot of their young assets, so they had to rely almost exclusively on free agency. It didn't get them very far (unfortunately). In sports, an aging athlete is like a woman over 30 in Hollywood, there's just not much there.

He was 26 when we traded for him, so there was plenty of time to build a quality team. He just wasn't the type of player you trade that kind of haul for. You cant trade young players and picks and expect to win. But in reality and I still say it....Walsh should have made that deal immediately, Billups and his deal should have never been here. We had the cap space.

Melo for Gallo and Fields plus one pick. That's all they originally wanted. That's all he was worth.

Donnie Walsh was definitely caught napping on more than one occasion.

PG was still valuable out there. He also looked dead tired from game 5.
