It's all good. Instead we got a role player, a maxed Blake Griffin who doesn't fit the team, a broken roster, no cap space, and no first-round pick. I know we could've had a franchise-changing player, but what we got is just fine!
Just ask Van Gundy. Things are great! We might get Leuer back next season!

Thank you Gores! Things are looking up. Bring back SVG because his leadership is essential.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

Re: i usually didnt agree with pharaoh
We could have drafted Monk who looks like a terrible player and a bust (Kennard)
Our franchise player could be an expiring and about to leave with us getting nothing in return because our owner decided he wouldn't trade him for anything less than an all star in return. (Drummond)
We could have maxed out Nicolas Batum. (Griffin)
We would still have a broken roster and no cap space but hey, we could have a late lottery first, so we could draft the next Rodney Stuckey or Austin Daye or whatever thrash we usually draft there.
Mitchell is not the only thing Utah did right, they did not tank even with their best player out for a considerable part of the season (Gobert), they added a lot of solid players via free agency without overpay for them (O'Neale and Jerebko), and they didn't lose their free agents for nothing (Hood), they developed their young players despite of them constantly making mistakes (MITCHELL, O'Neale and Exum)
All those pieces contributed for Utah to be in the West semi finals and honestly I hope they beat Houston, not because I like Utah, or because I hate Houston (I dislike Chris Paul to be honest so I would enjoy watching him lose yet another time) but to prove the cancerous process is not the way to do things, but having a solid foundation and making the right choices most of the time is.

Donovan Mitchell putting on a clinic in the playoffs..27 ppg and leading his team to the 2nd round. I don't trust our front office to accurately evaluate talent...college or nba. Stanley Johnson = Bust, Jon Leuer = Expensive Bust, Galloway = Bust, Boban = fun but still a bust....the list goes on.

Man watching Mitchell in these playoffs really hurts. I've a big fan of Luke and what he brings I think he's got the most upside of any of our rookies since Dre but I think he's a 18-20 PPG efficient offense type player he isn't going to be a star and Mitchell is looking to be at worst a perennial all-star and top 20 player. His worst case is looking Demar DeRozen but has potential to be so much more.

Rather have a player like Mitchell then some joke like Kennard or Stanley Johnson.
The Pistons will continue to be the joke of the league, the new, more terrible Atlanta Hawks, for a long time after missing out on Booker AND Mitchell
At least the Hawks were entertaining to watch in the regular season and would lose in the 1st/2nd round
The Pistons, meanwhile, look like crap, play like crap, and win JUST enough games not to make the playoffs and not get a top 10 pick
People in Detroit make fun of the Lions but the reality of the situation is the Pistons have been just as embarrassing as the Lions for the past ten years if not worst

I think you expect too much out of sports. Most teams are disappointing and it's all luck. 04 was luck not good management. Mitchell was luck whether you care to agree or not. A player staying healthy is luck. I'm telling you it's all luck when teams pass on players that become stars. Don't fault the front office. It's a roll of the dice and that's it. A good organization shouldn't be having trouble with Leonard but Spurs are about to lose him. Call it bad luck. It's all crap. I stopped following sports religiously when I found out how much luck has to do with it.

Just like in life, it's about the luck you make for yourself.
Our team has been MISMANAGED thats a BIG difference than luck. Instead of losing games that are meaningless (which is VERY doable) we have for the past 10 years won dumb games at the end of the season costing us 3-4 spots in the draft. These spots are the difference makers whether it means a better pick in a trade or a chance to draft someone that we would miss out on.
A few years ago we won two or three games that cost us four spots in the draft. Why in the hell were we playing to win those games? That is on the coach, the GM, and the owner.
I 100% fault the front office. Dumars overpaid trash players both starters and especially bench players, operated a coaching carousel in the Palace parking lot, and then left our team with no draft pick and a bloated roster after years of sucking
SVG came in and did the same exact thing. Signed overpaid players, somehow drafted worst than Dumars, and left us with a bloated roster with no draft pick.
Again where is the luck in that? Miss one time, shame on you. Miss multiple times in the draft, then you are just an idiot or have hired terrible scouts.
Glad you brought up Leonard, who for some reason has puzzled NBA fans this season despite his situation being painfully clear.
1. Spurs suck, their time is up, players are old, Duncan is gone, Aldridge + Kawhi is not enough in the West
2. Kawhi saw what happened with IT and how he lost tons of money while risking it all for a pretender (Boston last season)
3. Kawhi realized why should i go out there and carry a PRETENDER on my back potentially costing me the biggest contract of my life?
A good organization wouldnt rest on last year laurels and put out the same roster in an ultra competitive West. CP3 went to the Rockets, Warriors retooled their bench, and what did the Spurs do? Even if they were beating the Warriors before Zaza took him out, Tony Parker, Patty Mills, Rudy Gay, and an overpaid Pau Gasol is a joke roster.
Spurs should have made their roster more competitive or began the process of trading Leonard or at least exploring the option before this whole nonsense in the media took place. That was GROSS mismanagement both internal and in the media by the Spurs organization. Spurs looked like little babies and Leonard looked 10000% justified. He doesnt owe the Spurs anything. He brought them a chip and won an MVP while doing so. He doesnt need to risk his next big deal on a losing situation. Instead Pop and the Spurs organization turned him into this bad guy in the media, which tanked his value in any trade and put the ball in his court. Spurs will not get **** in a trade for Kawhi, they blew it. That's not luck, that's stupidity. Even the great Spurs can be STUPID. Leonard got hurt, that was unlucky, how it was handled afterwards was not luck it was stupidity.
Sports has a component of luck but great teams are created by great management and coaching, both of which have been severely LACKING in Detroit for a lonnnnnnnnnnnng time.

Don't forget to push the notion of continuity hard! Because just having a bad fitting team together, and refusing to abandon a bad concept equals long term success!

So, a multiple time all star, NBA scoring leader, and hall of fame player?
Outside of personal accolades, Mitchell has already surpassed T-Mac in terms of playoff success. Not only that, but he took down a team that was billed to be in western conference finals picture and the current MVP.
But, hey, we've got Luke Kennard. He's dating a girl from reality TV. So, there's that.

With Gores piss poor "win now" philosophy, you'll probably be celebrating your 40th birthday before you see this team compete for anything more than an 8th seed.

What happened to all those people who responded with "Mitchell hasn't accomplished anything yet?" to argue their position that Kennard was a good pick over Mitchell?

The saddest thing is... even if Reggie and Blake are healthy and they play at full potential, Dre keeps improving, Leuer come back and starts to look like when he arrived, all our youngs improve a bit...
Even with a great run and a 1-4 spot, our ceiling is being raped by LeBron as any other team in the East.
