If I was Becky, I would stay far from this fuster cluck as my first job. Stable ownership for her.

Becky is the only name that would make me happy. Why? ... reasons. :)

I would be happy to but as the first female head coach I'd prefer for her to stay far away from this clownership.

Something tells me you and I would be happy for slightly different reasons. :)

But you're right, she can't afford to come to a place like this where there'll be automatic failure built in by design. She'd look up and people would be unfairly blaming her for the poor record in a way they wouldn't do for a male coach.

More detailed bio of Coach Nate Tibbetts:

Tibbetts joined the Tulsa 66ers of the D-League as Head Coach in 2009

In his first season with Tulsa, he led the 66ers to the D-League Finals in their first ever trip to the playoffs in team history. The team finished 27-23 (.540) during the 2009-10 season, a 12-game improvement from the previous season.

During the 2010-11 regular season, Tulsa recorded a franchise-best 33-17 (.660) record and reached the semifinals of the playoffs. The 66ers ranked among the best in several defensive categories in 2010-11, including second in the League in opponent’s points per game (98.8), third in turnovers forced per game (18.1) and fourth overall in steals (9.04).

Tibbetts also was selected to lead the West team in the 2011 D-League All-Star Game.

LOL I used to be on this forum years ago all the time. I havent been on in years and with life responsibilites, kids, etc. I havent been able to follow as hard as I would have liked...its good to be back though

We will be okay...will we suck for a while..Yes, but we knew that. I mean that was the plan. I dont see the front office as completely botching this up. It was a bad situation. We needed a rebuild. Bud was great but not on board with what needed to happen. He wanted to leave, they allowed him to look at other options and word got out..it caused drama and they let him go so they can move on...at this point the only other option was to let Bud continue to search while under contract, increasing the drama and prolonging the inevitable. if we prolonged the inevitable we would just put us in a worse situation b/c we need to start the coach search process asap. Did they make some mistakes. YES!! what would be much worse would be to hold onto Bud and then a current coach on the market ( one that we wanted), signs with another team b/c we were hoping to get compensation from Bud...and that compensation is not going to be a high first round pick..its not..and thats what we need. It would have likely been cash.

this again shows that current ownership is willing to spend money when it needs to be done also.

thats my take. I know some of yall disagree. but its okay.... heres to another season of drama. I am excited to see who we get...you never know what will happen. I dont know too much about these assistant coaches we are looking at. Good to be back on this board b/c yall can probably fill me in

Budenholzer's 'harmonious' exit starts Hawks' coach search

Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk on Thursday described coach Mike Budenholzer’s exit as “harmonious” and “as mutual as parting can be.”

Schlenk also said the decision, finalized and announced late Wednesday , came after many discussions with Budenholzer and was not based on just one factor.

“It’s not one thing,” Schlenk said. “It was just the course of several conversations we just felt like this was best for him and his career and the right time for the Hawks for where we are.”

“Obviously Tony is involved in all the decisions,” Schlenk said. “We made the decision that was best for us instead of waiting and seeing what might happen. But certainly we had his blessing.”

Schlenk said he will look for a new coach who can work with a young, rebuilding team.

“One of the things that’s most important is having a coach who’s going to connect with our young players, continue to develop our young players, so that’s going to be a big part of it,” he said.

Schlenk said he already had a list of potential candidates to replace Budenholzer and will consider candidates with experience as a head coach or just as an assistant.

Schlenk said he hopes to have the new coach hired before the NBA draft on June 21, and “ideally” before the team conducts workouts with draft prospects.

Schlenk said Budenholzer’s exit won’t change the team’s rebuilding effort .

“We’re going to continue to develop our young players,” he said. “We’re going to continue to develop through the draft. We’re going to continue to look to gather assets and maintain our financial flexibility. This doesn’t change our plan at all.”

Spoiler:
Inappropriate adult joke:

Budenholzer helped to pave his path out of Atlanta by expressing interest in coaching other teams.

“One of the jobs when you’re in a position like mine -- or really any job in management -- you have your contingency list,” Schlenk said. “If and when it is time for change. We certainly have a list together.”

Another subplot to monitor comes in the form of the current assistant coaches. Schlenk shared that he has not yet spoken to the full staff and, while he expressed the desire and intent to do so on Wednesday, it will be very interesting to see what the future holds for Darvin Ham, Taylor Jenkins, Ben Sullivan, Chris Jent and others.

Tibbetts may be high on Atlanta's list of candidates.

Although he may not have head-coaching experience in the NBA, Tibbetts was a head coach in the D-League not too long ago. He spent four seasons with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, with the final two years as head coach. He also led the Tulsa 66ers to their first trip to the playoffs, which resulted in a D-League Finals appearance, in his first season and helped them get back to the postseason the following season.

His head-coaching experience also extends beyond the D-League (now the G League). Tibbetts led Team USA to a bronze medal at the 2011 Pan American Games.

This is not the first time Tibbetts has been in the running for a head-coaching gig in the NBA. In past years, both the Charlotte Bobcats and the Memphis Grizzlies have been granted permission to interview the Blazers assistant.

What Qualities Do Teams Need in Their New Coaches?

A rundown of the things that every coachless franchise should be looking for in potential candidates

Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks and Mike Budenholzer parted ways on Wednesday. In its next coach, Atlanta will need a candidate willing to be with the team for the long haul. Budenholzer didn’t fit with the team’s rebuilding outlook. Whoever replaces him doesn’t just need to buy in to the, ahem, process, but also needs to implement an identity for a roster that doesn’t have one aside from being young.

Atlanta needs a bridge coach — à la Mark Jackson — who can set a foundation for the future while simultaneously energizing the fan base in the present. Development matters just as much as identity, especially when it comes to recent draft picks like Taurean Prince, John Collins, and whomever Atlanta takes with the projected fourth pick in this year’s draft.

No big names are likely going to want to sign themselves up for a rebuilding process. That’s why Atlanta is already reportedly targeting assistants like the Hornets’ Stephen Silas and Spurs’ James Borrego. Atlanta and GM Travis Schlenk (formerly of Golden State) will have to bet on the right assistant and hope he’ll fare as well as former Hawks assistant Kenny Atkinson has in Brooklyn.

Jeez, calling it a bridge coach is not exactly the best way to sell the job.

If you’re targeting a first time head coach that shouldn’t matter. They’re typically looking for the opportunity and experience plus a relatively low pressure environment as far as the expectation for wins go. If they do well they know the door is open for them being retained or working elsewhere.

Little story about Jarron Collins. Met him in 2002 or 2003 in Palo Alto at a popular bar. I was a bit tipsy and called him Jason a bunch of times. He was a pretty cool and kind of a quiet guy. (Maybe he seemed quiet cuz I wasn’t I dunno). Long story short: nice dude, not sure he has head coaching in his DNA.

On the flip side if he did become the Hawks coach, I could say I had a convo with the Hawks coach; 15 years he became the Hawks head coach. Lol.

I'm actually kind of rooting for Darvin Ham to get a shot at Head Coach somewhere. Maybe not here...but he's put in the work and seems like he deserves a legit chance to prove himself.

I hope his interview yesterday went well.
