A thought on how to trade Blake
Ok, as dumb as the Blake trade was, especially giving up the first rounder, we probably should see how he plays when we get Reggie back and get a full training camp together w the entire team. But if we want to move him, I think I might know a trade that would work: Blake for Carmelo. As washed up and overpaid as Carmelo is, he has one year and $28M left. After Paul George leaves OKC, the Thunder will need to do something. Blake is from Oklahoma, and contracts are close enough. Melo will not want to be in Detroit, so we work a buyout with him. Of course, we're starting over without our first rounder, without the assets that Bradley could have got us, and no Tobias. But we would start to get some flexibility. This may not sound pretty but we do not have any great options at this point.

Your trade idea won't work. Melo has a no trade clause that I can guarantee he won't waive to come to Detroit.

This would absolutely make long-term sense for the Pistons, but the organization is in its current straits in large part because of an owner who has been almost completely without sense in his handling of the team. Even if Melo were to say yes, Gores would almost undoubtedly say no.

Considering the raging hard-on Gores has for Blake, I'd imagine he's considered untouchable to the furry d-bag.

He's like a child with a toy. I WANT SUCCESS NOW! OMG A BIG NAME! A STAR! I WANT HIM! PAY THEM ANYTHING THEY ASK!
He just doesn't understand that A) Fans won't flock back to see a team that gets eliminated in the first round every season, B) Fans won't flock back just because the Pistons now have a big name, and C) Griffin isn't the exciting player he once was, and is indeed now quite boring to watch.
The man just doesn't get it. He's truly our James Dolan or Vivek Ranadive.

Not possible. They'll probably average 64 or more minutes between them each night, so there's no way to keep them apart at all times. Furthermore, there's no evident way to put them into the situation you're suggesting. Griffin cannot effectively play center. That is known. The Clippers stopped trying, and Van Gundy wisely gave up on it quickly as well. We don't have a stretch five to play next to him. Given that Tolliver will very likely not remain with the organization, it'll probably be Leuer who plays most of the backup PF minutes, and he cannot shoot threes. Maybe Ellenson will learn to shoot efficiently and defend adequately, but I wouldn't bank on that.

Perhaps we can trade Griffin for Tobias Harris and a 1st. As an efficient stretch four who can score from anywhere and is not ball-dominant, Harris would be an excellent fit for both Jackson and Drummond.

Re: A thought on how to trade Blake
Even IF we unload Blake we are stuck with Reggie who is going to miss another 30+ games next year. Our only real hope is that both Blake and Reggie go down for an extended amount of time and then we win the lottery, followed by a couple of injury forced retirements that we get injury exceptions for. And somewhere in there SVG decides to go play golf, Gores sells the team to a competent owner and Durant decides to sign for the MLE because he feels like he doesn't deserve all the winning and money he's making in GS and just wants to give something back. Fingers crossed.

There would be one way around that and we would have to promise Melo a huge amount of that contract in a buyout, and give him the buyout early. Ugh, this is such an ugly situation. Pay $28M to fix a trade that we gave away Tobias and a 1st. WE have to hope Blake has an All Star year next year, anything short of that and we are f--ked for several years.

Melo or Dwight Howard is your way out. I cant see the Hornets doing that deal but i can see the Thunder doing it out of desperation.

Re: A thought on how to trade Blake
Wall is saying he wants the wiz front office to shake it up. Blake for Porter would be solid. Obv Beal would be a better get but no way we can get him for just Blake. Still off on salaries by 10mill a year though. Man Blake makes a crap ton of money.

It's also true. Those three were actually a very effective trio this season, and they were a very solid fit together.
Our current so-called big three is much more expensive and could hardly have a worse fit.

The only chance I see is if Melo realizes if he goes to Detroit and has 20ppg season it does two things for him. First off gets him another decent contract. Secondly allows him to pad his ranking on the career points list. Melo is on track to end up around 8th or 9th all time on the points list if he banks a few more seasons at this rate

I suppose it's possible, given that the Thunder may ask him to come off the bench next season. He's made his displeasure with that possibility very clear.
That said, whether Tom Gores would take the hit for the sake of the future is a different matter entirely.

I’m still on the ride it out on the train of suck plan. Roll with what we’ve got, try to draft well and develop the draft picks. Create some assets then make a move after the garbage contracts are gone.

That certainly makes the most sense. In spite of this being a thread I started, it is much better to play this one out. If we blow it up now, then it is guaranteed to be a horrible trade. If we become a home court playoff team next year, one could say we got good value in the trade. It would also give us a little more breathing room to make some trades. The contracts will be getting smaller, and maybe RJ and Blake can show some durability.
