Was it a surprise that Soriano was tried out at CF?
...or
Jones moved from right to center?
Jones even playing at all?
DeRosa playing 3b, ss, 1b, OF?
Sean Marshall over Prior/Cotts/Marmol/Guzman?
Defensive catcher over offensive catcher?
Young guys over several veterans?
Aramis back to his old ways of barely any Ks and a lot more walks?
NO to all of them. Lou does what it takes to win.
If Henry Rollenburgermeister threw a pinpoint 98mph fastball, then he would be pitching.

Give Lou credit... The difference between him and our last manager is Lou has real confidence in these guys and Dusty did not.
oh, hell yeah. love how lou gave the kids a chance. but these are players are really good. we got lucky having this tandem. they give the cubs a different kind of offense. an offense that we havent seen in a long time.
i dont know. maybe he had some say in eric. i would like to see how eric plays.

Cubs.com wrote:HOUSTON -- The Cubs are expected to call up Eric Patterson from Triple-A Iowa and place Alfonso Soriano on the disabled list Monday.
Patterson was batting .299 at Triple-A Iowa with 14 homers, 23 doubles, 62 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. He has primarily hit leadoff all season, batting .300 in the No. 1 spot in the order with a .365 on-base percentage.
Patterson, 24, began the season as a second baseman, but has played the past 10 games in the outfield in both left and center.
He is the younger brother of former Cubs outfielder Corey Patterson, who is now with the Baltimore Orioles.
Soriano strained his right quad Sunday night running the bases and is expected to be sidelined at least two weeks and possibly a month.

Don't count Eric Patterson out in the outfield rotation. He has been recently converted to outfield and has looked real real good. I'm guessing with Fotenot playing well and as young as he is they knew Eric would have to be an outfielder if they wanted him to play anytime soon. Plus we have several outfield spots open for several years to come, just think if Eric Patterson can succeed in right, then Pie in center and Soriano in left. Thats a hell of an outfield with defense, power, speed, and the other two tools I can't remember right now.

Patterson isn't good enough to be an everyday corner OF. Pie and Soriano are taking two spots for the next 7 years, and you have to think that there will be a bunch of great corner FA's we could use.
He's above-average offensively for a 2B, but he would be nothing special for a Left fielder. We should be able to do better if we're a real contendor.

I'll stand to disagree and I'll stick to it. Eric is an athlete and not just a ball player. He will have an easier time switching positions than most. He also has speed and can cover a lot of the field.
Hes 24, and Pie is 22. I don't think either of them, yes Pie included, will be starting in the outfield anytime soon. I would say we have a couple years left of Pie coming up and down, and Eric is going to have a hard time cracking time in the infield. Unless the kid succeeds in the OF I doubt he starts at 2nd anytime soon. DeRosa and Fontenot make a great combo, we don't need another 2nd baseman, unless we want to mimic the 06 Cubs.
