It was a flawed Playoffs though. How can he be ranked over any of Jordan, Wilt, Shaq, LeBron, Magic, Kareem, Bird, Hakeem, Duncan or Russell, who were all perfect throughout?oaktownwarriors87 wrote:CodeBreaker wrote:I think we should make this again. Health factors into evaluation. There's a reason '08 Paul is his peak and not '09.oaktownwarriors87 wrote:ardee wrote:It was a flawed Playoffs though. He took the Finals to 7 games and a bad knee and a bad ankle. That doesn't make him any lesser of a player.

Oh I don't disagree it's his best. I will just choose to take other people's best over it because of his injuries.oaktownwarriors87 wrote:ardee wrote:Health factors into evaluation. There's a reason '08 Paul is his peak and not '09.oaktownwarriors87 wrote:

09 Chris Paul won 48 games and almost got swept in the first round.
Not quite the same as winning 73, unanimous MVP, and taking the NBA Finals to 7 games with a gimpy leg.
That was easily his best season, even if he won a championship the season before and after.

Wilt didn’t win a ring until he was 30 years old and well past his absolute peak. Russell was never good on offense and won in the pre-historic ages. Magic never led the league in PER or WS once and was known for his poor defense. Bird’s best season had near identical playoff numbers to Curry in 2016, and his best playoffs were near identical to Curry in 2017. None of them were “perfect”.
Jordan, Shaq, LeBron, Kareem, Hakeem, and Duncan all were 2-way superstars that won rings at the peak of their powers so I’d agree they probably all deserve to be ahead of Curry, but I’d say he’s at least in the Top 8 with them plus KG.

Wilt was at his absolute peak in 1967, I don't see why him being 30 matters anything. It's his best individual season.
Russell was decent offensive player and his defensive impact destroys Curry's offensive impact. Russell peaked around 1962-65, that's not prehistoric ages. He's still alive, don't you know?
Magic wasn't worse defender than Curry. In fact he's probably more useful when he was younger. At his peak, it's a wash. I don’t know why leading the league in PER matters at all. Magic is much different player than Curry but their impacts are comparable. It's more of a matter of preference than one being clearly better than the other.
Then there are more players Curry has to beat to be in top 8 - Oscar, West, Admiral, Wade, Garnett... Curry belongs to discussion but he's not a lock top 8, definitely not.

We are talking about injuries that stopped him from potentially stomping the playoffs and having an arguable GOAT peak year - most wins ever, redefine the offensive game at the highest level, first unanimous MVP, record efficiency, etc. With his torn MCL, he didn't win the championship it's true... but still pretty easy to put him over 03 Duncan
