Re: 2018 Offseason Thread
That all being said, the worst case scenario of losing George and keeping Melo seems most likely. Presti should be fired, along with Donovan but it won’t happen.

Not saying he’s wrong but those kind of statements are ridiculous. People say all kinds of stuff about their “sources”. If they don’t reveal any info like “a source from George’s camp” ...then it often ends up someone giving a hot take.
Yeah and that other guy said he's staying months ago. I don't give a **** what some of these guys throw out there months before any kind of decision has been made.
Per complex.com
Of course, you can't draw any definitive conclusions from a rumor like this, and we'll probably hear many more in the weeks to come. But Russillo is plugged in around the league and is one of the more reasonable sports pundits—he doesn't generally offer hot takes without warrant. It's hard to imagine he would share this information on his show if he didn't believe the source was credible.

I hope he’s right. We should probably start our 2020 draft thread soon.

This bs is literally as hot takey as it gets. He'll get some publicity and nobody will even remember this when George announces his decision in two months, no matter if he leaves or stays.
Unless it's coming from Woj or Shams, there is no merit whatsoever to stuff like this two months away from July 1st. Durant literally put out a 'No chance I'm not coming back' piece a couple of days before he announced his decision even though he wanted to leave for weeks, if not months.
Let's not give this kind of attention grabbing trash any more of our time. It's not worh it.
"I don't know of any player that, when the shot goes up, he doesn't want it to go in," Donovan said

Does anyone really care? If George leaves we go from 4 seeds to possible 8 seed. Neither is a contender.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Well only way to contend against a healthy GSW team would be by signing Lebron James.

I believe the most likely is losing George (I hope via sign and trade) and Melo gets his buy out. He wants to leave and I hope Presti want the same so...they will have to figure a number.

Re: 2018 Offseason Thread
Speaking of James I guess the best for OKC would be for him to leave Cleveland (and go to LA or Philly) so we have more chances to make some PG13 sign and trade and get some value in return. Cleveland is no longer willing to trade assets for stars with Lebron signing only 1+1 contracts.

That’s pretty Optimistic. We were almost the eighth seed with George. We should be better than Phoenix and Memphis and about even with the clippers. Lakers probably pass us. Even if spurs rebuild, pop will have them in the playoffs.

Eh, we would likely be in the mix. I think Russ would have a better season.

Yea everyone is so concerned with George yet we just saw what him and Russ can do. Both were pretty much in 100% health all season. They couldnt have painted a clearer picture of what this team can be with them both.

We are doomed to be a relatively mediocre team that will reach the playoffs and lose in the first round for some years. Then when Russ totally declines or leaves we will tank.

Presti isn’t even going to offer George a contract. He’s already known he’s going to trade Westbrook next year.

Re: 2018 Offseason Thread
George leaving gives us more room and leverage to buy out Melo. We won't be ''contending'' anymore and no taxes reason for buying him out so it would be up to his willingness to leave. He could accept a bigger cut then and GTFO with his hoodie.

From nowhere IMO. No GM from a small market team would pass on the possibility to keep PG13.

I wouldn’t be so sure. I would say that these are extenuating circumstances due to how much luxury tax they are going to be facing.

Hopefully this doesn’t upset you, but this is a dumb take. Beyond dumb
George will have whatever contract he wants up to a full 5 year max waiting on him in OKC.
You don’t clear out Sabonis and Dipo only to not re-sign George the following summer.

Well, I appreciate your honesty.
So do you think the owner is okay with paying the potential luxury tax? On second thought, it is possible the owner trusts Sam enough to allow him to throw buyout money @ Melo and maneuver out of the majority of the potential tax penalty. But if Melo doesn't accept a buyout, what can you do to round out your roster? You certainly aren't re-signing Jerami Grant for an extra $48 million in luxury tax.

If George returns, I think that OKC will do basically anything to contend. I believe they thought they honestly had a title contending team pre Roberson injury and should George return will roll this team back while reaching some type of Melo conclusion where he’s not on the team next year (unless Melo has a massive change of heart between now and next season).
Should Melo agree to be traded to a team looking to buy him out, I think OKC would take on a multi year salary commitment. Think something like Blake Griffin to OKC. If not it’s buyout time.
All of this is contingent on George re-signing.
Many people will argue that this team doesn’t really have title contending capabilities even if George returns. (and they very well could be correct). However I believe ownership thinks that they are close.
Further they
