Gores wants SVG to take a reduced role..... Stan resists......

Post#1 » by ByeByeDre » Tue May 1, 2018 11:34 pm

Sounds like a poker game to me. Have any of you willingly taken a demotion at work? My best guess is that Gores is negotiating a buyout, and if he fails, he’ll just eat the money and fire Stan. Stan could care less about his resume and will just cross his arms until he’s gone.

Really hope it ends with SVG leaving because he doesn't want to just coach

He isn’t being asked to take a reduced role... he’s being asked to replace Bower and a few members of his coaching staff. He’s resisting because he’s loyal to them.

Stan is loyal to his coaches, but treats his players as chattel. He defends all his trades as "they know the business", but that goes for coaches.

College scouting should be completely overhauled. You miss on Booker and Mitchell, and as per SVG had first round grades on Gbinije and Hilliard - you suck. Even if Stan was the warroom shotcaller, you didn't give him the right information if he makes the wrong decision.

I don't think Bowers is the problem.(ignoring our drafting, i'm not sure how much of that can be attributed to Bowers)
Our coaching is the problem & Stan's refusal to play/develop young players.

Whether it's this offseason, during next season, or next offseason, it's not going to end well for SVG. Why not just fire him and move on? I honestly have no clue what Gores is thinking. You can't keep the things you like about SVG while trying to take away the bad. The workforce doesn't operate this way. Rarely does someone respond well to a demotion, and it eventually just leads to the person leaving anyway.

Time to just move on from SVG. There's a lot of coaching vacancies right now, but there's no guerantee there won't be a lot next offseason either.

Based on his previous comments I'd wager SVG would be perfectly happy if Gores fired him. This is all about how much money it will take to make SVG go away. And honestly, I'd rather keep Bower than Stan at this point. Of course if Stan goes we clean house and start over, just sayin'.

I don’t see the harm in going thirty games with Stan. “Hey Stan, you made this roster, everyone’s healthy, let’s see what you do with it.” If it fails, fire him New Year’s Eve and announce to the league that Dre and Blake are for sale to the highest bidders. In two summers you have zero dollars committed and you can legitimately start from scratch

Gores offered you a chance to go with grace Stan. Time to go without it.

Yeah It's not like we have any moves to make with the lack of cap space and no trade value in our players, just give SVG one last shot and if we suck again bye bye.

In the history of the league, has it ever worked out when a coach is kinda on the ropes and the team decides to give them one last shot? Yeah, didn't think so. When it's not working, it's not working. Dragging it out doesn't ever result in a positive outcome. Just cut your loses and move on.

Sounds crappy, but I don’t think it matters if he’s back or not for another year.... capped out, no draft pick, garbage owner...

"STAN RESISTS CHANGE"

Pretty much sums up his time as coach.

If it's true (Woj is as reliable as it gets), this is Stan's play to get fired and collect the final $7 million of his contract.

Considering that his termination hasn't commenced, Gores is likely trying to find some type of common ground to bring SVG back. Is this Gores cheaping out? I have as good a guess as the next person. I really don't think SVG staying or going as head coach drastically alters the mediocre season we're looking ahead at.

But, I have a much stronger conviction that he should not remain as head decision maker for the team going forward. He's been a failure in that role. The several smart moves he's made are heavily outweighed by all the boneheaded moves in contrast.

When Bowers was hired, I pointed to his drafting in New Orleans as a big red flag. That trend certainly carried over to Detroit.

Is there really a whole lot of point to replacing Stan or Bowers this season?

We don't have a 1st round pick anymore. The roster is pretty much set in stone aside from replacing / resigning Tolliver.
Next offseason we finally have some expiring contracts to work with (RJ, Leuer, Langston, Moreland, Smoove) as well as a 1st.

If I were Gores I'd just save the buyout money, ride it out and just forbid Stan from making any moves. Stan can't even trade next year's 1st right? (since the previous year's was traded) Then clean house after 18-19.

The only scenario where it will be urgent to get Stan's butt outta here is if the Basketball Gods have mercy upon us and we get a top 3 pick in the draft lottery. He cannot be allowed to come anywhere near our lotto drafted players anymore.

If that unlikely situation doesn't occur... it doesn't really matter.

Would anyone here give Isaiah Thomas the keys to Basketball Operations?

Just a thought on replacing SVG with Zeke..
