I really thought Jones was eventually going to make a permanent move to linebacker though. They must like Jones at safety but I do worry about him starting there. Always thought he was much more natural next to line of scrimmage.

Yeah. We need a coverage backer in a dire dire way. Burks has the speed and the upside to be very good. He still has a lot of growing to do as he overpursues, really struggles with blockers, and definitely needs strength. But, in terms of the skillset to take RB's out in the flats and cover crossing routes we have mightily struggled with that at the 2nd level. We'll have to see how he does year 1.

Kid is from my neck of the woods. Know he's a good kid and was a stud in HS but didn't ever watch Vandy.

I, actually, think they really like Brice at safety. I think that him getting hurt has made everyone forget he was ever on the field. He was the one that allowed us to play Josh Jones and Morgan Burnett in a linebacker style position previous to his injury.

I also really like Brice and my brother called him as soon as we signed him as rookie. But don't think you can count on him due to being injury prone. Also just don't know about Jones as a pure safety but like his hitting ability and speed. Think we need to find away to take advantage of his abilities which to me are best suited to a dime backer. Guess we will see and it never hurts to have competition.

After more than a decade of watching Hawk and Martinez get abused in coverage hopefully Burks can cover someone?
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Good film. You can see him on display as a spy and in coverage on running backs. His speed is apparent.

I'll admit to not keying in on all the nuances due to a general lack of xs and os knowledge, but I had to stop watching before the half. Who's highlight packed was that? If that was Burks', I'd can the editor. The one that did stand out was when he covered that sideline route that he was step for step but ouch the rest doesn't excite me. ..please help me understand what I'm missing because sl after that I'm seriously underwhelmed.

I'm not sure what you are looking for. This is game film. His team went 5-7 for the season. It is not a highlight. That is what he does on every play. This is a 5-7 team going against the team that won the national championship. When you watch a prospect you have to be able to analyze what they do while they play in an arena that is quintessentially unfair. They are one of the 3 worst teams in the SEC. He is being appreciated for the tools that he has. He is essentially a 2 year safety that was asked to play linebacker. His ability to read and react to run plays while staying true to his job on any given play is why you watch game film. He is stride for stride with running backs and tight ends in coverage. Even while his team is outclassed, he is in the right place to make plays. No one is expecting him to come out and have 5 tackles for loss in film against Alabama. That would be actually insane.

I never heard of the guy before tonight, but i like that

He's really smart

Really athletic

Started out a safety so he should feel more natural in coverage than a typical linebacker

Has length to help in coverage

It hopefully relegates Jake Ryan into a spot player at best

How he'll hold up vs the run clearly is a big question

The LBs should have very clean looks at ball carriers this season.

This is true. Their d line should be good and deep especially if they can get something out of adams and lowery takes a step. Burks seems like a guy that if you can keep guards off him he can fly around and make plays.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Heard him speak last night, extremely impressive, just hope he can tackle at this level.

Hey guys! I just stopped by to discuss trade value charts and the value of future picks. Does anybody here have thoughts?

This. So much this.

Although Martinez is actually "better" than Ryan against the pass and one of the "better" inside line backers against the pass to play for the Packers over the past decade.

Anyone remember Brad Jones?

I didn't until he announced one of the Packers draft picks over the weekend. I was **** dumbfounded.

EDIT: I can't believe he was on the team for SIX years. I must have repressed a lot of memories.

If nothing else, we have added some really solid high character individuals to the defensive locker room. I like the cut of this kids jibb. He and Alexander seem like they will help get the most out of their teammates.
