Okay, so you bump it after every bad game and we'll bump it after every good game. That's pretty pointless.

it was the three team deal with Atlanta and Pittsburgh

Injuries aside, a healthy Mike Gonzalez would've been tremendous for this team.

melky gets put down because he doesnt do anything "great." All his tools are average-above average.

some people get locked up on the idea that he needs to hit for power to be a starting outfielder.

Considering Damon's circus of a year, and Abreu's sleepwalk through the first half the yankees need melky, and there isnt any way around it.

you can overlook matsui's average defense because of his bat this year, but damon's ever decreasing range and arm coupled with Abreu sleepwalking the yankees would be a mess without melky. thats a fact.

from Peter Abraham:
The energy Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano have given the team. Melky is 21 of 51 over the last 12 games with 11 extra-base hits and 18 RBI. Asked whether the arrival of Jason Giambi could result in Cabrera losing time, Joe Torre shook his head.

nykgeneralmanager wrote:I have absolutely no problem seeing Melky as a permanent fixture in our OF down the road. He is an excellent defender with an even better arm, and I can see him having an OBP around .380 should he ever become a .300 hitter. How people could say that wouldn't be valuable is beyond me. Why, because he won't hit 30 home runs? That's fine, it's not what we need.

I agree and it is the NY mentality of wanting to have stars at every position that we end up overpaying for guys like damon and giambi. Melky does a lot of things well and it is no fluke he is playing this well.

The yanks won 4 world series without any player on that team hitting more than 30 HR's I think, the year tino hit 40+ we lost in 97 to cleveland, in other words, we don't need a huge number producer in center when you have the lineup we have..

Well, this needs to be bumped up. Maybe I was right after all.

In September, in 86 ABs he's been absolutely terrible. He has a .186 avg with a .221 SLG. He has a .455 OPS in September. He is not producing anything at all. He's not even walking. He's been a liability.

Overall, his year has been below average. He's hitting .276 with absolutely no power. His OPS is .722, which is pretty bad. A league average OPS is .750.

He's going to need to start hitting. I just don't see much upside in his bat... does the guy ever hit anything hard??? Does he ever hit anything into the gaps?

The guy can play baseball. I don't know if you watched any of the games this year or not.

Is Doug Mientkiewicz a .400 hitter? No but he is in September.

Is Matsui a .200 hitter like he is in September?

Truth is guys are going to catch fire, guys are going to go in slumps. Give me a break with Melky, anyone who questions whether or not the guy can play is foolish.
