I think we need to promise Kevin Huerter at 17.

man id love if we came out with jontay porter...still so young and can shoot it at the 5..would give us some spacing from that spot that we only get with Thon when he was good in playoffs...that could help us a lot

What asset would we have to add to our pick to trade up for Bridges?

No, he doesn't project to be a good rebounder for a 5 mainly because of he'll be both undersized and below average athletically as a 5 in the NBA, but is actually a really good boxer-outer already and that should carry over to the NBA without a problem. He's also a great screener so that's cool.
FWIW I definitely have Jontay as my top C that might be there at pick 17 (honorable mentions go to WCjr on the very off chance he falls and if there was decent tape of Mitchell Robinson to watch I might have him over Jontay, but there ain't so I don't).

Find me those guys that have key roles on good teams, but won't be drafted high because they are not 19 years old.
Pick the best shooter.
That's my guy.

This worked out super well for the Pistons when they passed on that Mitchell guy.

I'm just saying, and it's not just you. I hear a lot of people say "just pick the best shooter" and more often than not that's exactly how bad organizations draft bad players based on short-term thinking.

Most knowledgeable people had him over Kennard, but Mitchell wasn't some sure thing.
If you go back through the history of the draft, there is a low likelihood that you're going to get a Donovan Mitchell. A lot of times, the raw, athletic guy remains just that. Sometimes, the shooter is the highest upside guy.

No, we shouldn't use draft capital to move bad contracts. That's too Sacramento Kings.

Re: 2018 NBA Draft Thread
Also drafting Kennard wasn't a mistake.
I fully agree with the point Swanson's making, though, that being that tunnel vision on a particular skill is a losing proposition. Even if shooting is the best way to make that mistake, it's still a mistake.
You're drafting the seed of what a player will be. So many guys develop in unexpected ways -- not just *more* or *less* than outside observers expect, but in radically different ways. I always use the Bogut example as a guy who went from 'Athletic Brad Miller' to 'Mutombo with court vision'. We spent years trying to find the enforcer to put next to supposedly finesse Bogut only to figure out those were his strengths.
Point being that drafting for need is not only dumb in that you're not seeing the whole player, but also super dumb because the guy isn't going to fill that need right away [if ever], and meanwhile your team will be changing and even if the guy does eventually fill the need, who knows if it will even still be a need by the time he's ready to fill it? If you want to fill a need, you do it in FA and by rearranging your roster with trades. The draft is for unfinished talent, and how people choose to define 'talent' will vary.

What's the deal with Landry Shamet? Really efficient, good athlete, decent size, looks really high IQ and pretty crafty at the rim. I'm intrigued.

Idk. I wouldnt be above using that pick to unload some bad deals (esp Dellys) It depends on the return of course too.
But Id rather not make any personnel moves right now- ideally we get the new coach installed first.

He's not really a good athlete though. Size is also meh if he's a SG.

I viewed him as more of a PG, looks like a really good PnR shooter off the dribble and looked pretty good finding holes to get off threes off ball too.

He's a really good player, though, and he's a wiry guy, long strider... I wonder if he's got some athletic upside on a pro program. Wouldn't be my pick at 17 but independent of that, I'd gladly have him on the Bucks. Smart player and a deadly shooter. Would have liked to see him play more aggressively, but he's very much a take-what's-there type.

I'll go in detail when I'm home, did a lot of research on him.
