[video] Vernon Maxwell Punches Fan

Post#1 » by King Roosk » Sun Apr 29, 2018 7:02 am

Someone on Twitter dug up the original footage of Maxwell charging into the stands in Portland during the 1995 season and straight up decking a fan. I remember watching this live, and I'm certain this was one of many Vernon Maxwell moments that earned him a special place in my heart.

Vernon pulled a Ron Artest before Ron Artest and only got a 10-game suspension. Forever legendary.

Here's a transcript of the audio:

"Hey! I'm going to heckle Vernon Maxwell all game long.

I know! I'll make fun of his dead daughter! That will be great!

Oh look, he hears me!

Is he coming up here?

OW! MY FACE HURTS!"

Honestly surprised this thread didn't pop off and go nuts. This is amazingly rare & classic Vernon Maxwell footage and is A+ Rockets nostalgia. We gotta do better.

Yeah, we totally Lower Bowl'd this thread so far.

This is an incredible angle. For years there has been (often in mocking tones) some question as to how Mad Max knew exactly which fan in the stands was talking trash about his daughter.

It's pretty clear in this video who the brazen dummy is in that situation. He was getting right up in his face with a grin.

How have I never seen this footage before?!?!?

Love how he just walked back and sat on the bench. Nowadays he would be escorted out by security immediately. Honestly more "fans" need to be decked for the crap they say to players.

Real quick and only related to the "Lower Bowl" comment -- I'm studying the new Tax Act, and apparently businesses will no longer be allowed to deduct the cost of tickets for sporting events. Maybe they'll find a loophole around this, but in an ideal world the lower bowl at TC may be liberated!

ahhhhhh you beat me to this.. Thats the best part that he just walks over and plops down on the bench like "ok, how are we gonna stop Terry Porter's entry passes" as if maybe no one will notice what just happened or something...

It's truly amazing how it all unfolded and played out. I wonder if he went back in the game afterward.

I think that Mad Max has said that period was a pretty big low in his life. This is really before the internet era being as big as it is, so I've always wondered how people could get such specific details on players lives at that time.

I was a news junkie, reading everything I could (including about basketball); but I can't recall knowing the minutiae of players lives.

I remember watching this game or the news or something afterward, but I never saw this angle, either.
Pretty impressive!
