There’s no reason we couldn’t have gotten the same deal.
But man, seeing it summarized like that makes me feel awful about the team. Well, more awful.
It’s to the point where I’m just sorta following this stuff out of habit. I don’t really enjoy it anymore.

^ I think the point was SVG was really underwhelming during his tenure here.
I hope this sends a loud and clear message to the league that the GM/Coach combo experiments mostly end up in failure.

Re: BREAKING: SVG OUT!!!!
Anyone know for sure what picks were offered to Charlotte? I can find where it says 6 picks, 4 in the first round, but nothing specifically on what picks.
I'm not sure if the Memphis pick was included, but that stands to be pretty decent when it conveys and has certainly increased in perceived value from when that offer took place. We could have moved back to 16, then moved back up to get Booker (went 13) and still potentially be sitting on that Memphis pick.
The playoff series against Cleveland and subsequent miss on Horford in FA swung everything under Stan's tenure. The pressure was there to spend the money while we had it, Stan spent it on Leuer, who was lucky enough to be the guy standing when the music stopped. Obviously everything is different if we had closed on Horford.
Free agency, where it was clear master of panic coach SVG got badly played by several agents, and the draft, where it was clear "win now" task master SVG wasn't going to commit to the development of youth was the downfall. You just can't hand out the contracts we gave to guys like Leuer / Galloway or perennially fail to develop lottery picks in this market.

Agreed. I'm so jaded and cynical about this team now, there isn't a realistic scenario that plays out this summer where I can convince myself the team is moving in a good direction. It feels more like I'm watching a perpetual train wreck than a basketball team. It's like that scene in Hot Rod where he falls down the hill. You think it will be over in a couple seconds, but then it just keeps going on and on and on and on.
I'm sure many fans will convince themselves that the next guy they hire to run the team and poor sap that coaches them will be "the one who finally turns it around". But, unless Mike Zarren and Mike Budenholzer are heading to Detroit, I am pretty much pre-determined to have no faith in them. They'll be inheriting such a terrible situation with a coked out owner who will decree the same impetus upon them that he's thrusted on everyone else before them- "win now!"

There is no draft for us. No pick
I thought it was "top 4" protected, and they haven't had the lottery yet, so it's possible the Pistons keep the pick, especially if they pick somebody for GM/Coach the NBA really wants to see do well. Get on the Becky Hammons train people.
I’d be fine with her as the new coach. But if I’m her I’d hold out for something better. The Pistons right now are a dumpster fire that I don’t think anyone can fix, and she’s too good a coach to fall victim to “couldn’t get it done” and being fired in three years at her first head coaching gig, especially being the first female NBA head coach. I’m not saying she should hold out for a guaranteed success situation but guaranteed failure would be the worst thing she could do at this point in her career.

I imagine the picks were
2015 - 16 and 28 probably 45
2016 - 16 and 23 probably 45 or 51
All terrible picks, only Rozier is a NBA player and Boston is decent at drafting, unlike us.
I wouldn't trade the #8 pick for those, you don't trade a dollar for pennies. The problem wasn't not make the trade, was draft SJ who is a terrible player, well I don't even blame SVG for drafting SJ since he had high potential and he took the gamble, the problem was not trade away SJ while he had value (early this season when Bullock took the starting spot) when was clear he would be 100% useless for us and wouldn't develop here.
Now we'll probably lose him for nothing (like Monroe and KCP) or trade him for less than pennies.
