I lost it at the Flying Pig. It sounds like the name of an antagonist from Kung Fu Panda and it would make perfect sense if it was Chuck who voiced him :o

It's a lot of copy/pasting to go through all those tweets, I tried to grab the ones I thought were interesting, but I didn't venture down every tweet conversation the guy had. If anyone else wants to add to it, go for it! There were definitely a lot that I missed.

Dallas Mavericks used to be the Little Cows (小牛). Recently, they changed it to be the Lone Ranger Heroes (独行侠).

The King of Eights is so good omg. This is amazing. I liked the Mamba family. Diligent Mamba is great for Oladipo. Dian Wei is sick. LeBron haters have a a great one too "The Little Emperor" lololol. I wonder what KD and AD got
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

Shame about the language barrier, but if you really get to know them there's just so much about them and they're a tonne of fun

Thanks OP

LOL at the Pi Mamba :D

This is so true. I spent three weeks in China a couple of years ago. When I was in Xi'an, China I struck up a friendship with a hotel valet. We communicated through a translation app on his phone. The subject of basketball came up pretty early. When he found out I was from OKC he pulled up an image on his phone of Westbrook, Durant, Harden & Ibaka, all in their current uniforms, and lamented about what might have been. He was also very interested in Durant's image issues. This was November, 2016 so not too long after his move to GSW.

China is an awesome place and the people are very friendly.

Pretty sure KD is just KD. AD is thick brow brother, which is just like the brow.

A lotta the times the Chinese nicknames translate back and forth with English nicknames. Few mores to add:

Westbrook = 神龟 (god turtle) makes the TMNT reference. TMNT in Chinese is 忍者神龟 aka ninja god turtles

KG = 狼王 wolf king, this one is pretty self explanatory.

Oden was the original 大帝 (the great emperor) before Embiid, and we all know how that went. On a second thought Embiid should get a different nickname.

Griffin = 给力芬 (strength-giving-fin). 给力 (gei-li) is a new internet Chinese term that generally describes something awesome and empowering. He got the name is his early years with all the posterizing dunks (gei-li-fen sounds like griffin).

Mutombo = 穆大叔 (uncle Mu). Subtle shot to his age mystery but more importantly, Chinese fans have a soft spot for him being Yao’s long time teammate and mentor.

Ray Allen = 君子剑 (righteous man’s sword). Perfectly describes rayray’s elegance and his deadly accurate shooting.

Not calling Kobe 神戸? Because Kobe is named after 神戸, a Japan city.

If this doesn't become his official nickname in English, we have all failed.
