Chris Bosh - 龙王 "King of the Dinos" This nickname has stuck with him since his days as the the star of the Toronto Raptors

Yes, I’m sure that’s the only reason

You almost want to be offended at the eyebrow name for Villanueva but so many Chinese people I know including my in laws don’t think it’s rude to blatantly point out physical flaws

I remember the first time I met one of my ex girlfriends aunties many many years ago the first 2 words out of her mouth were “you fat” as she pointed to my gut, no joke hahaha

I just wish they could have a conversation without screaming, I’m staying in a hotel surrounded by Chinese people and I swear they stand in the hallways and just yell their conversations at each other half the day

Let me ask: are there any Chinese nicknames for NBA coaches?

Rick Carlisle: “金凯利“ basically the Chinese name of "Jim Carrey"
Avery Johnson: "小将军“ the little general
Jeff Van Gundy basically is everybody's "brother in law" "Jeff" sounds in Chinese "Jie Fu" which means brother in law

I love the word play!

The Spurs ones are all amazing, especially Manu's - The Demon Blade, so fitting and true.

Flying Pig - please oh please let Shaq find out about this one...

Dirk's 'The German Panzer Tank' is gold, too.

I think everyone can agree that Kyrie's nickname going forward has to be Flat Mamba. It's just too perfect.

Love these. Chinese fans are so die hard they even gave my old colleague, a beat reporter whose last name is McDonald, a nickname: Hamburger Man. Yeah, we never let him hear the end of that one.

Dwyane Wade - 典韋 "Dian Wei" Dian Wei was a mighty warrior from the ancient Three Kingdoms Period who was a loyal sidekick of the general Cao Cao. He famously died covering for Cao Cao's retreat when they were ambushed by a rebel army. His name also sounds like "Dwyane Wade."

holy

there was a dude named "Dian Wei" from 3 Kingdoms Period (wade was number 3, heatles, 3 titles)

not only that his life mirrors wades nba career

Chinese put more effort into the nicknames than we (and the players) do. Stone Buddha is my favorite one.

In general, Chinese fans are insensitive to races or body figures, disables etc...
I remember back in the days Patrick Ewing's nickname was so racism ... of course Chinese fans did not feel that way or mean that way... so Charles, don't be offended, they all love Charles...
