for the same reason we signed marquis . . . well not really, we signed marquis to pitch and cliff "cornholeius" floyd to hit hrs . . . but, they arent getting it done, cliff has only hit 4 homers and lets not even talk about marquis . . .

I have to say, that was quite possibly the worst at bat by an every day player that I have ever seen. I thought my eyes just bugged out on me after that first swing, turns out Floyd just missed the ball by about 10 feet.

And as far as Marquis goes, I refuse to ever watch a game pitched by that man ever again...playoffs pending.

I wouldn't.

This is the same Cliff Floyd that struggled for the Mets, then ended up carrying them into the playoffs.


Having said that, Lou and the Cub staff have been extremely careful with his health. They haven't overplayed him and they've done their best to monitor his fatigue. These next few weeks they are letting him, plus anybody with any potential to contribute, go. Hence the Eric Patterson move. Pie seemed like the obvious choice but if you can have Eric contribute then call up Pie, since you know he'll have some contribution, your now deeper than before. If Eric does bad, then at least we know he doesn't deserve a call up in a couple weeks.

Have faith in Floyd boys, he can really carry a team when he gets hot.

Don't be surprised to see .300avg 5hr 25rbi in a period of 3-4 weeks. With a consistent amount of playing time going to Floyd in the next month or so he should pick up momentum. Overly-monitoring Cliff will hopefully pay off.

i have to say that i have patience for floyd. but that at bat last night was horrific. i actually shouted at the screen in fury and got into an argument w/ my girlfriend cause of that freakin at bat. lidge made him look foolish.

I can only speak of Floyd's years with the Mets, but he seems like a rhythm type guy.

With the amount of swings hes had, or lack there of, he hasn't had an opportunity to get that rhythm going.

That at-bat pretty much sums that up. Last year with the Mets Floyd was hurt than was phased out of the outfield rotation. He never did get that rhythm he had the year before when he was consistently playing.

I think if he is given consistent minutes he will be fine. When he came back last year for the Mets, he became a late inning replacement for pinch hit opportunities. He did end up giving them a huge boost in the playoffs against the Dodgers. I think he batted .500 5/10 or something like that.

Anyways he has the ability to carry a team like he did with the 05 Mets.

He is also a spotlight type player. When the light shines brightest Uncle Cliffy would answer, well at least for the Mets he did.

I think this is the main reason why Lou and the Staff have monitored him intending to keep him healthy for the stretch run. Whether he was an insurance policy in case of injury(our current situation), or just someone who could legitimately step in to give someone a good breather. Hopefully this is his chance to pick up that rhythm.


EDIT: I also want to point out that this is another example of Hendry's buy ing low. Cliffs numbers went down last year with the Mets vs. 05. This guy needs 400 at bats to get even close to those numbers.
